trythisonemv Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 So lets talk streamers at night... Wanting to get a tactics and advuc thread going since several of us are interested in this. Ill start with the fact I've had success with mohair leeches and scuds but I'm wanting streamer action ...
Ozarks Chillbilly Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 I love fishing streamers (all sizes, but the bigger the better) and have been fishing at night recently. I haven't been around the trophy area though, fishing up by the dam outlets. Have had some success on size 6 zonkers w/ wool heads to push some extra water. Also fishing some articulated streamers, really fun to fish and usually catch some healthy fish! After about 8:30PM they have been typically shutting off all the generators. I've been fishing from about 9PM-2AM and various times in-between depending on success. Good Luck! trythisonemv and Johnsfolly 2 Live count (10/19/17) : Streamers lost to Taneycomo's Giant Squid = 12
trythisonemv Posted September 19, 2017 Author Posted September 19, 2017 Had ok luck with leeches going to try articulated stuff this year.

If you're into tying flies I like seeing what they're biting on and making adjustments on certain patterns for what I hope is increased success. Check out Charlie Craven's Double Gonga, really versatile pattern with tons of flow. I opt out of the rubber legs (I can't wrap my head around the reason besides the vibration effect...fish don't have legs) and throw on a wool head for some water displacement. So far, I've only used up to size 4 hooks for my articulated flies but I'll probably up the size a little later on in the winter. I'm pretty new at this though so take my words with a grain of salt haha Here is one of my variants on the Double Gonga I like to call the "Jailbird Gonga ". It also has a UV Ice Dub body in pearl which really shimmers in the dark for a cool effect. Good luck out there, see ya on the water! trythisonemv, Johnsfolly and JestersHK 3 Live count (10/19/17) : Streamers lost to Taneycomo's Giant Squid = 12
Ozarks Chillbilly Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 Lame picture but here is the previous fly in the mouth of a hungry fish. Johnsfolly, fishinwrench, bkbying89 and 1 other 4 Live count (10/19/17) : Streamers lost to Taneycomo's Giant Squid = 12

Is that some sort of psuedo-hair for the head and then some black marabou for body? Looks like a great meal for some hungry fish. trythisonemv 1 Live count (10/19/17) : Streamers lost to Taneycomo's Giant Squid = 12
trythisonemv Posted September 20, 2017 Author Posted September 20, 2017 Craft fur head with Olive schlappen , sculpin Marabou and black Marabou for the body. The underbody has Crystal Flash wrapped around it as well. Ozarks Chillbilly 1
ColdWaterFshr Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Anyone ever try the magic cones on the rear hook of an articulated fly? Gives it a nice swimming motion that I think would be deadly on Taney at night in the shallows.
