I have a bunch of different rod brands in the $100-150 price range and the Hammer is the most comfortable and well made of them all. The BuCoo's aren't too far behind and I actually love fishing with my Duckett Ghost. The quality/finish on the rods are clearly different and I am only speaking in terms of "fishability". If the Hammer is a 10 on quality, BuCoo an 8 and the Ghost is about a 5. I have some $100 range Shimano rods and I like them but they are all pretty heavy and don't fish like the 3 I mentioned above. I have an couple year old green Compre Jig n Worm model which doesn't balance well and fatigues the wrist in about 30 min whereas with the Hammer I never get that ALL DAY fishing the same jigs.
Members rngr188 Posted October 10, 2017 Members Posted October 10, 2017 What's funny about Hammer rods is the blanks are made here in Harrison at Ark-Rod Inc. where I live, I'm told Falcon blanks are made here also, and the rods are assembled by Hammer owner Shane Cox in Guntown MS where my dad lives. It's funny because they have a bait store next to the rod factory and if you ask they wont tell you who they make rods for but the owner of Hammer specifically said on BBC that his blanks are made by "the rod craftsmen at Ark-Rod in Harrison AR". When you go in the tackle shop there are rods that they have built with no name or line/lure rating that are identical to Falcon Caras. abkeenan 1

The Falcon HD is heavy, not very sensitive at all and likely will not hold up very well. It's just not a very good rod. Denali has a line of rods called the Kovert that are mid-range priced and are both light and sensitive. I'm very proud of the two that I own. You might want to take a look at them. Hope you find what works for you at a price you can live with. I'm fishing a fair amount right now and would be happy to meet you somewhere on the lake and let you experiment with every rod I have in the boat. Ham, Royal Blue, Bass Yakker and 4 others 6 1

Well, since I've launched an instructional guide service, it's just good business to help out folks when I can. I don't even mind taking anyone on this forum fishing for a few hours (no charge) if I'm just out tooling around looking for fish. PM me and we will get together. Guide business is pretty slow this time of year anyway, but it's my favorite time of year. Heck, if I could get Bo in the boat, he'd quit night fishing and next thing you know his trolling motor would be all scratched up like mine from fishing shallow all the time! cheesemaster, Royal Blue, abkeenan and 1 other 4

Thanks for the offer Champ, very nice of you, may take you up on it some day..but i kind of put the pole buying on the back burner for a little bit..what i bought was a lews ssg1h speed spool reel 6.8.1 gear ratio bait cast for about half price brand new.......I'm not to sure you want me cast your baitcast reels as i'm still kind of getting the hang of it and do get a birds nest every now and then..lol I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Champ188 Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 It's no worry, 176. Donna will tell you that I can pick out just about any birds nest under the sun and if not, I have a few miles of new line in the boat 😀 Bass Yakker 1
Members sjcorpst Posted October 12, 2017 Members Posted October 12, 2017 Have you looked at the Dobyn's rods? I have several and they're very nice rods for the price.
