Having a blast with the new toy !

IMG_20180301_194828329_LL~2.jpg

My best 20 yard off hand group happened today.  Could still use a little more trigger work but I don't wanna make it unsafe.

502fps.  11.7ft/lbs.

That looks sweet. I located my okd Benjamin pump pistol the other day. Gonna see how it does next weekend when it warms back up. Thats a good group wrench.

I don't think I went on a rant about it here, but that high dollar Crosman 2240 (KT whatever) that I ordered from Crosman's custom shop turned out to be a POS and I sent it back.   Took the money and ordered this 1322 and all the goodies to hotrod it, from PA and did it myself.  I did everything except the flat-top piston and flat nosed valve, because I have no desire to stand here and pump that thing 30-50 times.     Very happy with it.  It has plenty of power out to 20-25 yards....which is further than I ever plan on shooting it. And if you can hold it steady it is a genuine tack driver.

I almost dropped some coin on a Umarex Gauntlet yesterday.  A dealer from Kansas City was set up at the gunshow.  He specializes in Air Guns and Black Powder, I have had a few conversations with him in the past.  He had the 177 and 22 at the show, and I got to put hands on them.  They look like they weigh a ton, but shoulder and balance real well.  His price was the same as online, so I decided to wait.  We did discuss the hand pump thing in pretty good detail.  It takes about 40 pumps to fill the empty tank, then about a pump a shot to top it off.  The Gauntlet has a regulator and is pretty efficient on its use of air.  I was always assuming there would need to be alot of pumping with a hand pump to charge the tank, seems like it does not take very much.

He had a couple of the 2240's on the table used, one was already tricked out with the Walther Lothar barrel, but I don't need a CO2 gun.  There were some nice long barrel 32 and 36 cal squirrel rifles that drew my interest, something on my short list is a black powder in that design and caliber.  I ended up walking out without buying anything.

My grandson is sporting a new Crosman AR 177 pellet rifle that I got him for his birthday last week.  Good looking rifle, durable like the old 140 powerplant.  Adjustable stock so he can grow into it.  5 shot clip.  I put a 30mm red dot on it and a rifle sling.  I bet there will be a squirrel die this fall from it.  I also ordered another AR receiver, going to build a nice little 22lr AR for him this spring too.  That Modern Sporting Rifle has turned out to be the berries for me.  Adjustable stock and soft recoil has made things easy for my kid and now grandkids to adapt to them.  To bad a turd had to use one at a mass shooting.

Sorry Wrench, I thought that was the 2240 you ordered.  The pump arm did not look like the 1322, because of the mod.

Looks like I need to do the same with my 1322.  I bought one a couple of years ago and was unimpressed with it.  Tossed it into the closet after one afternoon.  No power or accuracy.

You gotta get a steel receiver, and seal up the top of the transfer port with a tiny 0-ring (I actually got the O-ring from the valve of a Scripto cigarette lighter) :)

Do those mods alone and you'll see that 1322 come to life.

The hinge pin (roll pin) needs to be flared on both ends or it will walk out on ya.....Or you can order a solid 3/16" stainless pin for 8.00

If you just hate it and don't care to mess with it I'll buy it from ya.  I freakin' love this thing.

The 2240 was just weak.  Weak to the point that I don't think anything could have made me like it.   CO2 just sucks!  That thing was loud as hell but wouldn't even penetrate thick cardboard.   Totally worthless for anything except maybe indoor paper punching.    A longer barrel (much longer) might have helped but if I had wanted another rifle I wouldn't have ordered a pistol.

Then there is the temp thing with CO 2, it gets colder and power drops off.  Straight air is the way to go, all of my hi power stuff is that.  Either pumpers like the Crosman 140 or the AR 177, Springers with the one stroke.  Nice to see what you did with the 1322.  I have a 1377 that used to get that kind of performance.

Gotta love the net.  You could never get this the ole fashion way of trial and error.

No kidding.  I would have never figured all that stuff out on my own.    One evening of surfing and I got like a master's degree in this crap.

Anybody got any recommendation for somebody that can repair an ancient Benjamin .22 caliber air rifle?  I've had the thing ever since I was a kid.  It still shoots but only about one pump of air at a time...enough to kill a starling if you are close and hit it well, but that's about it.  I bought a new one of the supposedly same model last year; shoots pretty good.  But it isn't nearly as solid a rifle as that old one.  I've killed a bunch of squirrels off the bird feeder with it, though.

That should do the trick.  Look for a you tube video to walk you thru it.  There was another trick the other day with some kind of lube that improved the seals but can't remember what it was.  Pretty simple.

Or, you could just send it to Baker and let him do it for you.

Word on the street is that the Benjamin Prowler .22 being dumped for under $100 right now is a real fine rifle.   Comes with a scope that just needs to be tossed in the trash, but the rifle is supposedly very accurate and a hard hitter.    I may snatch one up just for kicks.
