Members Jim Spriggs Posted November 5, 2017 Members Posted November 5, 2017 I fished the Middle Meramec on a gorgeous Satuday, and I did so with a friend with whom I hadn't fished in a long time. It was a terrific day. The brown and green fish were a bit slow, and we caught a bunch of shorts. However, I did catch my PB Walleye. I don't have an exact weight or length, because shortly after this picture was taken I did a bonehead thing and dropped her in the river. At least, I got this pic, or it would have been just another fish story.. Flyguide7, Mitch f, Greasy B and 13 others 16

Members Jim Spriggs Posted November 5, 2017 Author Members Posted November 5, 2017 She had some shoulders on her. It was a fun fish to land. And, you might ask why I fished this spot, as I had never done so before. I saw an Eagle fishing for its lunch. That was a good enough signal for me. Daryk Campbell Sr and Mitch f 2
Flyguide7 Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 Nice fish, sorry about it slipping away. She will reward you with a few thousand babies this spring.
Members Jim Spriggs Posted November 5, 2017 Author Members Posted November 5, 2017 Yea, I would have released her anyway, but I would have liked to have gotten a weight first Mitch f and Flyguide7 2
Members Born to Fish Posted November 6, 2017 Members Posted November 6, 2017 Nice fish!! Here's a link with a length to weight conversion chart for walleye from In-Fisherman http://www.in-fisherman.com/biology/walleye-length-to-weight-conversion-chart/
Members Jim Spriggs Posted November 6, 2017 Author Members Posted November 6, 2017 I have a question for everyone. What do you consider a trophy size walleye on the river? For smallmouths, for instance, I think anything over 18” is a serious fish and a 20” is a trophy. timinmo 1
Al Agnew Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Depends upon which river. I'd call 25 inches a trophy for the Meramec river system, equivalent to a 19-20 inch smallmouth. But if you fish the south flowing streams like Black, Current, or Spring rivers, the equivalent would be something like 28 inches. Used to be bigger than that...back in the 1960s and 1970s, we never thought it was worth bragging about unless it was 10 pounds or better. But maybe Hog Wally will chime in...he knows more about Meramec walleye than anybody.
