In great light they do a good enough job for most people. In low light they just can't make it happen. It's not the fault of the equipment, it's just not made for that. There's a reason that I carry a smartphone and two other cameras when I fish. A decent point and shoot with a good flash and some post processing will get you some good photos. Being to big for my net, I used my boga to hold the fish and with my headlamp in one hand and phone in the other. A little over 7 lbs. You know another thing you can do is a little post processing to correct your shots. Now this isn't the best example since the shot is out of focus but 30 seconds in an editing program can bring out the detail and true colors. Johnsfolly and Trout Addict 2
Flysmallie Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 And that's a very nice fish. I'm jealous of that. Trout Addict 1

I have supposedly the best camera in a smartphone going, pixil and it supposed to be compatible with any camera. It does take good pictures except in complete darkness. Maybe there's a sitting I haven't found yet. I also have a camera and tripod I haven't packed wadding and site fishing yet. I really don't know what kind of pictures it will take in complete darkness. I did buy a Simms backpack late October that has plenty of room to pack'm next time to try. Flysmallie takes and posts great photos. He'd be the guy I would listen to in terms of gear to use to take the photos as well as editing software. I use my phone but really rely on my old Olympus Stylus (both water proof and drop resistant) to get my photos and usa Picasa software to adjust color and contrast as well as cropping photos. I'm decent on technical stuff, but I haven't done much with photography since mid 80's, before digital. I plan to improve my skills so I can capture the beauty of the fish I catch and I appreciate your input.

moguy1973 Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 In my experience of taking pictures at night with a cell phone you need more light. If you don't want to upgrade your camera/phone to one that takes better low light pictures I'd get a head lamp with an adjustable beam so you can flood the area you want to take the picture of with light. Then the phone has something to focus on without having to wash everything out with the flash. But there are many good apps available. Adobe, ACDSee, etc.. Find one you like and learn it. Trout Addict 1

Think I still have it on a old Pentium II/ windows 95. Lol, that's a 20 years old version.
