Boat doesn't even have it's first scratch and he's already lost confidence in that POS 4-stroke.

Wish I had that new ProXS 4s. She's a screamer.

I was waiting for a dude to launch his boat a few weeks ago.  He had backed it in but forgot to unstrap the back from the trailer.  The boat floated trailer downstream off the ramp.  I said hey I think you forgot....  He jumped out of his truck but it was too late.  I had on muk boots and offered to push it upstream back over the ramp but he declined my help.  He starts his truck and I say hey thay curb the side of the ramp is at least a foot tall.  He just gunned it and got one tire onto the ramp then high centered the trailer scraping it up until the other tire hit the curb.  Gunned it again and got it back on the ramp.  Unstrapped the back, backed it in took off.

If I recall the truck was a 4 stroke.

When you get one take the price you gave for it, plus maintenance, and divide that by the number of hours on it when it lays down for good, and tell us what the cost per hour of operation was.

We did that recently on a reasonably well maintained 115 4-stroke that we knew the full history on, and the cost per hour was $24.48

For comparison I also figured up a Johnson GT150 that is 16 years older than the 115 4-stroke and the old Johnson (of which I also know the full history of) came out to $8.31 per hour.

Now, will you save $16.17 per hour on gas?  Close....but not quite.   And the 2-stroke is 16 years older....and still running.  Add to that it's resale value, even at its age, exceeds the non-functional 4-stroke by enough to compensate the majority of any fuel cost savings along the way.  And did I mention that it's still running? :) Runs good too, so in another year or so she'll be paying ME to run it.  Let's also not forget that we are comparing a 115 pontoon pusher to a 150 bass boat motor.

Sorry, but 4-strokes are losers if you plan on keeping them awhile.  If you're one of those guys that trades boats every other year, then fine, but somebody down the road is gonna get hosed. No two ways about it.

There are several reasons I have run an ETEC on the last two boats. 300 hour service intervals are high on the list. When service is necessary, the cost difference pleases me as well. In the unlikely event I ever buy another boat, it too will have one.

Dang, guess I will just keep running my Yama ha 90 HP 2 stroker.  I have lost count of the "incidents" I have witnessed at boat ramps over the years, wish I had them all on video.

It has two scratches, it's a jet boat.  We won't discus how they how they got there.  I'm confident there will be more.

Last year I bought a 115 Yama 4s to replace my old smokin, chokin, loadin, hard  startin Merc.  Best investment I ever made.  I just look at the key and the new Yam starts right up.  Trolls at an idle for hours without missing a beat.  All I can say is those POS motors come in all sizes and shapes.
