tjm Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 Were they in the Zone area? been 30 years since I fished there so don't recognize the hole) Because he said Niangua River below Bennet, and the MDC site says " Catch-and-release rules do not apply to fishing in the winter on the Niangua River... All regular-season rules and regulations regarding licenses, permits and possession limits are in effect, however, and brown trout cannot be kept unless they are 15” or more in length. " I may have missed it but did they refer to Cricket or this forum? Again because MDC says that stretch is good for bass and rock bass. I don't think this thread is what got them there.
fishinwrench Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 They are in zone 3 inside Bennett Spring state park, mostly. No they didn't learn about it via this forum, they learned about it from a friend who also has a YT channel with vids of him doing the same thing just outside the park.
Flysmallie Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 And they probably had no idea that they were doing anything wrong.

tjm Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Bet they can't spell genius either. They know now the comments section covered that.
tjm Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 fishinwrench, did you send a link to the local agent?

I reported a half a truckload of dead rainbows and a few Smallies laying dead on the bottom of the river recently that had been gigged and they didn't seem to care at all about THAT, so a couple boys doing some C&R smallie fishing in the park isn't gonna concern anyone. All they are likely to do is write a nice article about them like they did the little elk chick. I only posted that to show that OAF isn't the only way to learn that there are smallmouth in the spring branch during winter. I talk to a ton of fishermen and only about one in 500 are even remotely familiar with this forum. Discussion forums aren't a thing for most people that fish. We are just kinda special
Chief Grey Bear Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 I believe I was just saying that the other day. But then the whole Google thingy came up. Some are just too blind.
