Blll Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 I used to fish rivers around the Chicago area for carp and have a 22# as my personal best. Made my own doughballs, made hair rigs and sold them, I was pretty into it. Here on Beaver, I've seen several carp that dwarfed my PB. With so many other options I've not targeted (or caught) any carp. I'm kinda intimidated by the big lake and would not know where to even start looking to catch carp. Would baiting a small area with corn be worthwhile? I would love for the grand kids to catch some without having to cast much. Isn't it odd how some fish pictures are so presented to distort the size of the fish. JMO
fshndoug Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 I would bet money that the fish on the stringer is not anywhere close to 30 lbs.Look at the size of the head and the hand holding the stringer.

JMO Bill I know a couple guys that fish beaver, it still kind of untapped, I do have a friend near you than I could hook you up with, he prob has a spot or two picked out, Pm me Ill get you hooked up, baiting up a spot or two always helps, a 5 gal bucket of boiled corn a couple of times and kids can have a blast!, warning though its very addictive! 16 minutes ago, fshndoug said: I would bet money that the fish on the stringer is not anywhere close to 30 lbs.Look at the size of the head and the hand holding the stringer. I totally agree! I bet that fish would be lucky to break 1/2 that!!! MONKEYS? what monkeys?

Chum in the morning and come back in the evening. Works like a charm. I used ultra light spinning rods with a split shot and a scud hook. That scud is offset and it hooks them really well. My kids have literally caught hundreds of carp that way. Well they did, now they're grown and gone.

snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 My daughters Barney rod caught em like crazy. Until I casted it out and set it down to do something. Wasn't fast enough to step on it when it flying into the water

Wasn't fast enough to step on it when it flying into the water long before I chased carp, I have lost more than one rod to carp, even had one get snapped under a boat cleat once on Stockton drifting for walleyes!......it took a long time to over come my personal hate of ol rubberlips, fought a 10#er for 30 min till I finally saw it, the whole while I thought it was a record smallmouth! at some point during our journey as an angler we get to the point to enjoy what we are given, or just get tired of banging our had against a wall trying to catch bass in 104 degree heat while fighting cabin cruisers and jet skis,. my personal fishing calendar is....late fall- winter, trout....late winter early spring, walleyes/crappie, early summer LMB and giant sunfish, summer wading for SMB and night fishing for carp/cats....early fall GIANT carp!..then repeat with some side trips to places like Canada or the gulf for reds/flounder/specks MONKEYS? what monkeys?
