We had a nice day her in Columbia today. I got home, had a quick bite, and got rods and tackle in the car. Livie got her lucky fishing cap and we got in the car and headed back to fish the pond by my office. The day held a lot of promise. I wasn't sure how the fishing would be. Livie started with a 1/32 oz tube jig with a green pumpkin and chartreuse slider body. I put on a green and black 1/64 oz jig and float. We both made several casts on the one bank and just got nothing to bite. We walked the bank towards the north side. Even after the cold winter there were still a fair amount of weeds. We tried to fish the gaps in the weeds. The wind would mess with our casts. Finally got a couple of small bites, but nothing worth setting the hook. Livie had switched to a white and chartreuse 1/64 oz jig and she got a few small bites. We moved one last time to the deep water near the outlet. Livie made a cast into a a weed gap and got a solid bite that actually pulled the float below the surface, but missed the strike. I put in a cast by her and I got a solid bite and missed it. Made a second cast and got a hook set on the first fish of the day.

I landed a decent bluegill/green sunfish hybrid sunfish!

Livie got a couple  of other bites from that same area, but never did get a fish. I had a bass on for a quick run, but the small hook did not get a go hook set and it eventually pulled the hook. It was a slow fish day, but a nice sunset and time spent with my youngest while fishing was priceless :)!

Stinks the fish didn't cooperate but I'm sure you 2 had a great time together.  Fishing with kiddos is best fishing.

She did catch a spring peeper ! I've stopped including those catches on her total species lists. I just add them as a comment in my Excel files.
