97procraft Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Came in Friday to thunderstorms and tornado sirens and woke up to low 40's and wind Saturday. Went out looking for some crappie but didn't have much luck. We started off targeting shallow per the reports from last week and was rewarded with several nice spotted bass. They really helped make the day. Caught them on crappie jigs in less than 4' of water. We had another larger bass hooked but came off. With no luck on the crappie shallow we moved out a little deeper. We only caught a handful and all of them were on jigs. The ones we caught were in 8-12', I think the cold may have moved the out deeper. The wind and cold forced us to head back in without a limit. Hoping for a better outing in a couple weeks. Members Dinkslayer Posted March 19, 2018 Members Posted March 19, 2018 Friday was by far our best day with 20 keeper crappie and bass were biting the jig with some aggression. Everything went silent for us after the storms Friday. Caught one bass at 4lbs Saturday in the painter's tournament out of Alhonna and followed that up with a big fat zero on Sunday. Only 4 five fish limits out of 44 boats Saturday. We only fished until noon on Sunday and I believe one bag of 5 came in that day. Should have kept chasing crappie. On a side note, the drum bite is on! The painters district put on a great tourney minus the sub-par fishing for most of us.
STLbassbuster Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 What were the water temps over the weekend?
shrapnel Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 The crappie definitely backed out some after Friday, we followed and caught about 50 fish per day Fri, Sat and Sun, Sunday was our best day. Also caught a 5lb Drum, 6lb largemouth, 4 lb striper and 4lb walleye all on all on an ultralight and crappie jigs. We didn't keep a single crappie under 10" but had to really weed through a ton of dinks. Fish over 12" were scarce for us. Daryk Campbell Sr, fishinwrench, grizwilson and 1 other 4

STLbassbuster Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 That had to be an awesome battle with that sixer on the crappie gear!

She was pretty lethargic, barely even pulled drag. Set the hook, she rose to the top and made one short run to the back of the boat and then into the net.

97procraft Posted March 19, 2018 Author Posted March 19, 2018 I was getting mid 40's for a water temp.
