This year for Christmas my mom has paid before a vacation for me both my brothers and our families to go to Gulf Shores Alabama. My youngest brother and I will be taking our Kayaks with us and hopes to get away for one day to do some red fishing. Was just wondering if anyone could point me in a direction down there or some tips for redfish would be great. We are trying to stay away from using a guy would like to just do it on our own. Our past Adventures of going out of state and trying to catch that we don't normally fish 4 haven't panned out very well for us. Nothing more frustrating fan getting on water that is different than what you're used to and just feeling completely out of your element. I haven't done a whole lot of research on the subject yet this is kind of my starting point but I will be researching over the next couple of days. We will be leaving on May 12th. Any General locations to start with or any types of tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

yes I grew up fishing there, the Perdido Pass jetties are great and in summer the water is calmer than Stockton, also the many canals have lots of small reds, reds run bigger in the bay but it can be dangerous because of ship wakes, tossing spoons for spanish is really fun, pompano, flounder and specks, you never know what you might catch, bass sized spinning gear 10# test and a spoon tipped with a piece or fresh squid or cut bait will catch everything, watch the tides and you will catch ...crabbing at night is fun as is tossing a cast net just to see what is there....mullet if you catch them are good to eat as well as bait, the area around the ferry/fort morgan is good but the beach areas around state park pier would be easier to kayak and fishing is really good ...and then there is the food!!! yum

I've never done it but I have thought about it many times. I've heard good things about the Bon Secour and Oyster Bay areas. Or even Little Lagoon. Fishing off the beach early and late can be really fun too and a kayak would be perfect for that. Lots of fun fish out there to catch.

Try to load up on Sand fleas.  I put my kids to work catching them, but a good rake will stock you up once you find them.  Reds love them on a fish finder rig.  There's a few guys on the Pensacola fishing forum who target big reds and use Gulp power bait setups.  Gotcha plugs too.  Good luck, and hope to see a good report.

Tides are the key. If the tide is not moving fish off the edge. Scout at low tide, see where it fills when it rises. A gold silver minnow spoon with a shrimp trailer will catch most anything. Just gotta find the fish. Shrimp and a hook is all you need, topwater and a few Mann's 1- make it more fun.
