Potential Float This Weekend

It's a nice stretch of river.  A very pleasant and easy day float, with good fishing.

Glad to hear that it's a well liked stretch. I've only floated James once and it was from hootentown to mud bank after a good amount of rain. Didn't have much luck. 

Is there any areas to be aware of if the current picks up after the storms this week? I know the water levels are pinned to this thread but I don't have a good reference for what to expect.

It was already a little high but the rain that got dumped last night has it on the rise again. And there may be more on the way. 

I like it at 600 to 800 cfs.

But I don’t really think you will run into anything sketchy unless the water continues to rise.

At the cfs range it is now and will be around Saturday, do you think that will require more fast moving and heavier baits like spinnerbaits and cranks instead of Ned rig and Texas rigs?

Start fishing what you like to use and adjust from there.

Would try the slack water eddy's if it is up. 1/2oz Swim jig with a paddle tail swim bait or a big tailed grub trailer. 1/2 oz spinnerbait same trailers, or a loud wide wobble deep crank, or a heavy jig & craw if up and murky.

Just took out at Cox before dark.  The river is up about a foot and not  stained at all.  Clear water in the shoals and the holes are that good opaque  green color.

Ah, OK I guess.  I live close; was more just getting out of the house than serious fishing.  Motored my freighter canoe  up past old Limberlost to the east  bend and floated back down.  Quite a few strikes and caught a 12" or so brownie on a ned rig.  Wind was out of the NE and it was almost jacket cool after that front passed through.  Lots of current.  I got most of my strikes in  pools close to a current seam, that seems to be where they're holding with the river cooking along like it is.     Good luck!
