Gatorjet Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Going to Bennett for the first time in early June. I have questions about what appears to be mostly the revenue generation rules. Three zones, OK I can see a special zone for the fly rod purists to enjoy their sport without bait dunkers around. But what constitutes a "fly"? Is any single hook lure considered a fly? Is a jig a fly? Now, zone 2, flys and artificial lures. Are soft bodied lures permitted. Like Trout Magnets, or twister tail grubs, Road Runners, etc.? Zone 3 Only soft plastic bait, unscented or natural and scented bait allowed. But all flys and lures are prohibited even if natural or scent has been added. Does this make the now very popular on Taneycomo Gulp worm on a tiny jig head under a float illegal in zone 3. If it is not legal because it is a lure is it then legal in zone 2 because it is a lure? Now, if jigs are legal in zone 1 because they are a "fly", would the jig tipped with a Gulp worm be legal because it is considered a fly or lure in zone three? State revenue generation opportunities at their best. Now you need to have a lawyer accompany you on fishing trips!!! Real men go propless!
moguy1973 Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 This is from the Missouri Fishing Regluations handbook: Flies, Lures and Baits: The following classes of lures are authorized for use, except where restricted. See pages 16–20 and 28–40. (A) Natural and scented baits — A natural fish food such as bait fish, crayfish, frogs permitted as bait, grubs, insects, larvae, worms, salmon eggs, cheese, corn, and other food substances not containing any ingredient to stupefy, injure, or kill fish. Does not include flies or artificial lures. Includes dough bait, putty or paste-type bait, any substance designed to attract fish by taste or smell, and any fly, lure, or bait containing or used with such substances. (B) Soft plastic bait (unscented) — Synthetic eggs, synthetic worms, synthetic grubs, and soft plastic lures. (C) Artificial Lure — A lure constructed of any material excluding soft plastic bait and natural and scented bait defined in (A) or (B) above. (D) Fly — An artificial lure constructed on a single-point hook, using any material except soft plastic bait and natural and scented bait as defined in (A) or (B) above, that is tied, glued, or otherwise permanently attached. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

So then Trout Magnets, and Gulp Worms on a tiny jig head, along with curly tail grubs, and Road Runners are not allowed anywhere in the park? Real men go propless!

Zone 3 for those. Artificial lures are not grubs or tube jigs.
tjm Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 I don't think I've ever seen another area where flies were prohibited, if any kind of fishing was allowed
Johnsfolly Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 It seems to me that the in zone 3 they want to minimize line crosses between guys casting/cranking lures or fly casting and those that are drifting baits under a float or with baits weighted on the bottom.

So a jig, which is a lure if it has marabou feathers tied on it becomes "bait" if it has soft plastic attached to it instead of marabou. Think I've got it now. Real men go propless!
tjm Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 I'm pretty sure a jig with marabou is a fly unless it has a double/treble hook. This definition also covers single hook Rooster Tails etc
