I've had luck in other areas with the same basic setup (non rolling sinker, fresh live/cut bait, and a circle hook) but I have yet to catch a single catfish in almost 10 trips. I live by lake springfield so I frequent there the most but I've tried james river, stockton, and fellows.

Due to certain limitations I fish from the bank, but maybe in a few years I'll get a jonboat. Am I just hitting the wrong spots? Should i try somewhere else?

I fish from 7am-12pm with 3 rods when i go.

McDaniel Lake would be another place to try.  I don't know too much else about catfishing other than what you've already tried.  Sorry.

A buddy of mine said he caught some really nice ones out of Lake springfield the other day.  He was Bass fishing and accidentally caught them

Do you know the area? The lake is huge and the area I've been fishing doesn't produce much.

I do not fish for Catfish, but I have always ran into people fishing for Catfish either just below the Lake Springfield dam, or on the long peninsula across from the power plant over there. I see pictures on an app called Fishbrain quite a bit, so I know they catch some Catfish and Carp in that area.

The one Catfish I have caught at Lake Springfield was on a chatterbait out in the middle of the main lake where it has basically a mud island, just luck while fishing for bass in my kayak.
