Wow. I got into some whites and Hybrids last night and now i know why you could get addicted to chasing hybrids. Man talk about a blast. They hit so hard you better be holding your rod tightly as you reel. I had one that was like hooking a freight train. All i could do was hold on and listen to the drag sing as it did circles around the boat. It finally wrapped around the trolling motor and broke off.  But i did land a couple along with the whites.

Nice and welcome to the club!  They are fun, and where there is one there are more...

Absolutely!   That's something that sometimes drives those fishing with me crazy.   Once I catch ONE good one I know there are plenty more nearby so I'll camp out right there in that area.  There's no use running all over the lake after you've found one.  Stay put and either try different things....or just wait until they decide it's time to go nuts.

That strategy pays off for me way more often than running point to point, or flat to flat.   Just bring drinks and snacks for the chill times.   Fun business!

There's another trick that I'm starting to experiment with, and that is to put the boat on a slow plane and literally tear up that area with a few repeated passes/circles.   For whatever reason that seems to fire them up sometimes.   I noticed that more than a few times they turned on right after a boat passed by "too close".  Sometimes even in the wake of the passing boat.   It kinda works.

Here's another thing:.  Does anyone ever catch Whites/Hybrids near a dock?  Because I don't.   I even had a really good point with a drop-off that was one of my best areas....until somebody bought the property, built a house and slapped a dock on it.  Ever since that dock got placed there I haven't had a good visit to that point.   They seem to hate docks and low bridges and definitely want to see the sky at all times.  Can anyone dispute that?

Who can I call to request a missle attack on this dock right here? 😉Screenshot_20180914-113457.png

There was a ferry for a time serving what is now Isla del Sol eyesores and my secret was to wait for that thing to make a pass and then drag cranks over that saddle as fast as I could right behind him...I caught a BUNCH of walleye doing that.....they would lay off the side in deeper water until he came by and then go up top and smash anything resembling a crawdad or minnow.  Dang causeway wrecked that deal.

For whites I used to start with topwater but now my go to is a spoon which I typically horizontal jig anywhere from 3-35 FOW depending on what I see on my SI/2D.  This presentation is a snapping action and elicits a reaction strike; if you have the right size spoon (I typically start with a 2” in some variation of white but when the water is dirty firetiger is HOT) they can’t NOT hit it.  The bigger whites, hybrids, and walleye are typically under the schools and it can wear a guy out in a hurry.  I love it.  Interestingly, the last few times out on LOZ the 6” flutter spoon has outfished everything - hands down.  After I get them fired up on the 6” I can start catching on a 2”.....you ought to try that but I warn you it can be addicting.

Later in the year wrench when they move up on the banks one of  my best spots  is right next to a dock. Last year since they dropped the dang water early it caused a little bit of a problem but they were still there but not as many as previous years, lets hope the jerks at Ameren can leave things alone for a bit, sure would help if we were to get some rain also.

Alright then, I'll keep trying. I just never find them within casting distance of a dock. Not even once.

As for Ameren.....yeah they pulled the plug at noon today and are still pulling over 30k 😨😓😰 I just checked.

Asshats!

I looked for tickets to Rhondas' show, did I miss it? The darn Hybrids are beating me up. All I want is to chase them anymore,  Had another goodun on last night that pulled off. Been able to get some whites and cats off the shad schools, and one or two big fish bites per evening. It's frustrating but I don't believe there's any better fight than a healthy wiper.

You pay at the gate is what I think. I can check on this for you to be sure. The show is next Friday the 22 and Saturday the 23 at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon  I agree about the Hybrids. She will be on stage 2pm and 9pm Friday and 4pm and 8pm Saturday.

You are probably right if you're down low, but the whites on the upper end shallow flats start having anxiety attacks when the level starts falling.

You'd think that they would just move out a little bit, but that never has been the case.  I have no idea if they actually crank up their tail and leave or just hang around and cease feeding, but a 5-6" drop in lake level always shuts them down.
