Dutch Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 I am wanting to spend some time off shore on Stockton trying to find schooled fish around shad. I could use a few pointers on what type of water to look at (channel swings, humps, ledges, long points, etc.) I'd also appreciate some screen shots of what you are seeing when you pull up to fish for those suspended fish. If you don't want to post on the open forum please pm me. I'll take anything you have to offer and appreciate it. Summer fish on Stockton have a way of disappearing for me.
rps Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 As you know, Stockton is not my lake, but I can share what I have been finding successful. Inside bends where the flat humps up and then drops into the channel, especially if something (stumps, rocks, road beds) creates a break on a break. The bait fish are up on the hump and the game fish are just downhill where they can ambush. Outside bends right at the channel swing where it begins to break away from the bluff. Best if timber present. Check both the deep and the shallow side of the timber. In this type of location the bait fish are suspended out in the deeper water and the game fish come up from their hidey hole to ambush. I hope that helps.

rps Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 I look for these features at the thermocline. Right now that means, on Tablerock, 28 - 30 feet. My most recent walleye trip, the bites came 28 to 35 feet deep. I don't know the Stockton thermocline point right now, but I am sure someone does.
dan hufferd Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Rocky points near channel swings, usually 18 ft is the number but I think it is near the mid 20s this year. There are fish on the flats but most of us fish the brake where it drops off into a channel, I would not even worry about finding them on the graph, fish habit. As RPS mentioned where the thermocline meet a rocky brake is the magic on Stockton. If that dosen't work I move to secondary points. You will not find many on the graph they hung the bottom so close. I hope that helps.
Dutch Posted August 14, 2018 Author Posted August 14, 2018 Thanks for the tips guys. Maybe I wasn't as specific as I should have been. What I am wanting to find is similar to what the guides do in the summer on Table Rock where they locate schools of KYS hanging out in say 40' over 100' of water. Stockton doesn't have that kind of depth but I have not been successful locating fish that way. I'm looking for some pointers to help narrow my search.
fishinwrench Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 I've always wondered why some guys believe the location of the "channel" is a factor, when the channel is deeper than any fish ever goes ? I only concern myself with channel location on Lake O when the channel depth is less than 30' deep.

I know what you're looking for, had a few instances of that earlier this summer. Wish I had taken some screen shots. Might run across some this fall.
fishinwrench Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 I can get you all kinds of screenshots of suspended fish, but I'd be lying if I told ya I loaded the boat with them. I don't even try anymore. (Well that's a lie, I tried just the other day, bumped one and brought up a scale on the tip of my hook, but didn't get a single bite). cheesemaster 1

My bad I was giving walleye fishing tips, sorry.
