fishinwrench Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 You have taken a fuel sample to ensure there's no water in it, right? Pull the plugs and see if there is any sign of water or fuel/oil flooding on them. A bad head gasket can wash a spark plug or two and stop them from firing. A stuck carb float, bad fuel pump, or carbs with improper float level settings can do that also. You can use a timing light to verify that loss of ignition voltage is what is causing the problem.
Ranger520vx Posted July 22, 2019 Author Posted July 22, 2019 No water it just has a 6 gallon remote tank that we emptied and mixed new fuel. Mixed because the VRO has been removed. We had all 3 carbs off and tore them completely apart and ran through ulra Sonic carb cleaner they had a lot of crap in the bowl. Set floats and reassembled. Plugs look good no fuel or oil fouling and no signs of water. It has 110 lbs compression on all 3 cylinders. When they took the VRO off they replaced it with a fuel pump only can't remember the part number of it but it's the one I found listed when you delete the VRO. Fuel pump is pumping and hooked vacuum tester to it and the diaphragms aren't leaking. Also had bad primer bulb so replaced it and all fuel lines. It's tough to tell if we're loosing ignition with timing light when it dies because it doesn't spit sputter or nothing it shuts down immediately like you turn the key off. Will give tech support a call and see what they say. Thanks
fishinwrench Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 If it isn't the stator I'll be floored. Are you sure that your old one was bad?
Ranger520vx Posted July 23, 2019 Author Posted July 23, 2019 The DVA readings on the old one actually checked out but the outer plastic covering was bulged up and cracked. So my buddy said he wanted to replace it.
Ranger520vx Posted July 23, 2019 Author Posted July 23, 2019 Also I called CDI tech support this afternoon and went through all the DVA results. He seemed to think that it is the pack. They are sending us out a replacement so guess we will see what happens when it gets here.

Well the only thing connecting the Ppack to the charge coils/rectifier circuit is the black/yellow kill wire that you disconnected and tested for parasitic voltage ......and the motor still died with it disconnected, yet runs fine with the charge coils isolated. I'm thinking the Ppack is fine, but stator, or all those rectifiers you tried (highly unlikely) is bad. But I guess we'll see. Let me know cuz I wanna learn too. 😊
Ranger520vx Posted July 23, 2019 Author Posted July 23, 2019 What you are saying about the stator and the pack for sure makes sense but if they are willing to send me a new pack we will put it on and see what happens. I will definitely let you know where this all ends up. fishinwrench 1
Gumboot Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 I love these fix it threads, especially when it takes a long time to figure it out. It's like my daily soap opera. Would really increase traffic on the sight if you guys could mix in some cheatin, lying, and sex. Old dog 417, Ranger520vx, tho1mas and 1 other 2 2

The only thing we haven't tried is bending that 60 over the transom and stretching her exhaust port. Toss me the lube, I ain't ashamed to try it. 😜 Ranger520vx 1
