Last week I was white bass fishing some pretty windy stuff.  It was hitting at about a 45° angle.  I came to a spot that had a concentration of fish so I pointed the boat into the wind and set spot lock. When I was ready to move I tried out the jog function.  It was great.  I fished the entire bank never having to do anything except hit the jog arrow when I wanted to move.  That sure made it a lot more fun.

I've caught more extra fish with spot lock than I ever dreamed.  You can literally work an area over without having to do anything else.

I have a first Gen Terrova and the spot lock is about one step above useless IMO. Drifts about 20 feet before correcting, over shoots, wraps up the cables, you name it.

The new ones are way better but it'd be nice if it didn't take a whole paycheck to buy one.

Do you use the jog function?

My buddy has the same motor and I was never a fan of the spotlock on it for the reasons you mentioned. My Ultrex is fantastic though!

Yes I have.  I've also used the continuous power feature or whatever they call it.  I mostly fish rivers and it's even better in current.  It won't hold on 6 units on the White but everything else it's absolutely fantastic.  Catch a fish, hit spotlock and you don't keep drifting down river.

I used for my Ultrex in a similar fashion on Taneycomo during the CAM tournament. I'd run up above the eddies holding fish, hit spotlock and it wouldn't hold me 100% still due to the heavy current, but it would slow me down enough that I could catch a fish, measure it and get several more casts in before I'd be past the spot. Without the those I-pilot features, I wouldn't have caught nearly as many fish as I would have been way out of the hole by the time I landed and checked my fish.

Yep.  It really helps to stay on a spot and hammer them.  That combined with watching MLF and seeing those guys return to spots that they caught fish on earlier has really paid off for me.  Those guys go back over and over and keep catching fish.  Before that I would run around and look for similar structure or whatever but rarely would I go back and fish the same spot again.  Especially largemouth fishing since I didn't consider them schooling fish.  But let me tell you I go back over those areas a lot now and it really pays off.  I always went back over trout and smallie water since I consider them schooling fish.
