fishinwrench Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 The "point" itself is meaningless. Some points have a sweet spot (drop off, piece of cover, rock pile, flat spot, ect) that can hold fish. That very same drop off, brushpile, rock pile, flat spot, ect. along ANY bank will be just as good as the one on the POINT.

There has to be something else happening there. And there are some spots that are created by the point. But there are also ditches and roadbeds and humps and all kinds of fun stuff that hold fish.

fishinwrench Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Mitch, here we have a big cove, it has a nice flat backend, several sub-coves, various types of cover and other structures within it. Got one pictured in your head? Ok...... Are you under the assumption that when the water at the mouth of the cove begins moving towards the dam that most of the fish living in that cove are going to leave their lairs and move towards those corners ? Or are you under the impression that the fish that happen to be near those corners at the time are going to magically become hungry and go on a big feed because the water starts stirring up a bit ? If baitfish and plankton were pulled towards the dam every time the water began moving then you couldn't turn a prop near the dam for all the solids in the water there. Points of land do nothing but give you a reference (something you can see) as a place to stop running down the lake and begin fishing. There is no reason whatsoever to believe that the majority of fish willing to chase and bite are THERE.

Suspended fish use the seam as a feeding spot. If they can sit close to the seam motionless or without much effort, they will ambush prey this way. No different than a murky river coming in after a storm and creating a mud line. Fish will obviously use strategically placed brush piles the same way but finding the correct brush pile is more difficult. if you combine good seams with the use of good electronics, it will be a killer combination. The fish they find at the seam are definitely in the feeding mode. If you were in a tourney, It would definitely be a high percentage spot. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

Maybe, providing the wind isn't howling or the pleasure boats aren't pounding you with 3' rollers. As I said, mainlake points are undependable. Given any day, you have a 30% or less chance that you will be able to fish them effectively, and a 20% chance that the fish will cooperate when you can effectively fish them. Inside of a cove, or far up a tributary arm you can always find shelter from the brunt of the wind, and boat traffic is minimal. Plenty of fish are always there.....and you can actually FISH. I've won tournaments that way too. 😊

fishinwrench Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Ameren is predicting LO level of 654 by mid-February with a total drawdown of 652. I'm predicting 655 for an all winter low, probably occuring closer to mid-late March. Truman still has to lose 3ft. of water. That's ALOT of friggin water ! One big storm system between now and mid-February and they are gonna have a rather tense situation to deal with.
