That is a big spinner for a Missouri Spring Creek.

That one hatched the day before.

Here's what you need...IMG_20181113_213345189~3.jpg

That's what he looked like when he first hatched 😊

What is what?

You want my fly pattern?.....or do you want the scientific Latin name of the actual bug?

The fly pattern is on here (9mm Wrench) in the fly tying section somewhere.

I couldn't tell you what the actual bug is, but the big head tells you it's a male, and the clear wings tells you that it is preparing to mate and die.

The big head thing may be some BS that I learned from a bonehead biologist.... because I'm pretty sure I see an egg sack there.

Oh sorry, should have been more specific. I was asking what the fly pattern was. Or is that taboo? I'm still learning the nuances of the fly fishing culture.

Thanks! So far my tying has been restricted to nymphs but I would like to start tying some dries. That looks like a good one to start with. Thanks to all of you for the input! I do far more reading on here than posting, but when I do put a question up I get lots of helpful advice.

Here's a book I recommend: Curtis Creek Manifesto. It's a good, concise primer on how to fish streams. It's written in a comic book style which sounds weird but don't let it scare you off. Really good info without beating the topic to death .
