fishinwrench Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 I love the Etec motors, but as much as we all love new technology there is still a place for simple carbureted 2-strokes, and IMO that is in the 6-25 hp zone. There's just no need, or desire, to overcomplicate an engine that only produces 25hp or less. And there are plenty of them around that can be bought reasonably and fixed up good as new.

Seth Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 I ran a 115 Etec from 2010-2014 and a 150 from 2014 till now and have had very good luck with them. My 150 probably has over 400 hours on it and it keeps getting me from point A to B and back again. snagged in outlet 3 1
rps Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 ETEC all the way. Two boats since 2006 both with ETECs. Never have needed to turn the key more than once, even after three months of winter. If you buy one have it set for the 100x oil. You will go months before you need to refill the reservoir in the motor.

They told me mine was set to oil more in the first 10 hours then goes to a lower level for life of the motor. After the 10 hours it shouldn't use much.

The non-HO motors can be programmed to use oil at a 50:1 or 100:1 rate. You can run XD100 at 100:1 or 50:1, but the XD50 can only be ran at 50:1. Some guys run XD100 at the 50:1 for extra protection. HO motors are programmed to use oil at a 50:1 rate and that it can't be changed. That's what I've always been told anyways. Oil usage will be higher in the beginning during the break in period as you've mentioned regardless of which oil setting you are using.

The first time I ran low kind of caught by surprise. Low oil light came on and I had to troll back to the ramp about 1.5 miles downstream. Ultrex made it easy!!!
