Travis Swift Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 Today was absolutely insane on a scud bite. I just made a drift rig and had an egg fly above a scud. You couldn't go 40 yards without catching one. Anyway it's somewhat of a pain with 2 flies and I would like to put a bead up above the scud in place of the egg fly. How do I do that? Do you peg it with a tooth pick or what?
tjm Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 Since it is an attractor, it would be similar to the bare hook and bead, these might help; http://forums.ozarkanglers.com/topic/14817-anyone-ever-used-trout-beads/ http://forums.ozarkanglers.com/topic/64416-fishing-beads/ So yeah, a toothpick or plastic broom bristle to peg the bead, or just maybe a tippet ring just below the bead? I don't see an advantage over using two scuds though. (maybe I'll learn something here)

Logical progression for me to think, well if one works why not two of the same fly they are biting. Not just scuds either.... tjm 1
tjm Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 I always wonder when i read these things, maybe the fish was dodging the first fly and swam into the second. Logically if they are deliberating eating the scud then they will try to eat as many as possible and the more you use the better your chance. If that isn't true then maybe they aren't actually eating the scud?

Or the bead attracts their attention and they see the scud and eat it. Johnsfolly 1
tjm Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 Sure that's likely it, for sure that's what the angler wants to believe.

I don't give trout any thoughts or decision making ability. I just change flies a lot to see what they want and use it. You can decipher the rest. tjm 1

I would think that a colored bead would work the same way. snagged in outlet 3 1
