I hear ya...That’s that boat mechanic of mine...and why I always say I wish you lived closer

its a good setup...I think it’s worth the money

I hope the Simrad you just acquired replaces it well.

Yes sir...Thank you for the Simrad

I’m hoping to put it at the console but not sure if I have enough room for two big ole honking transducers on the transom.

The existing one is a Garmin...I’m not sure if there would be interference between the two transducers or if the totalscan will catch enough water if I put it out to the side a little

I put some photos...probably not the best place to ask the question...but when in rome

I do not know about interference if that close. I do know that one transducer in the front and one in the back has not been a problem.

Consider using a transducer mounting plate (https://www.amazon.com/transducer-mounting-plate/s?k=transducer+mounting+plate).

The plate reduces holes in the hull and eases change out of transducers. And, if you hit an obstruction at speed that rips the transducer off, it rips out of the board and not out of the hull. Just a thought.

I get some interference even if my bow and console unit are on at the same time. It's not a huge difference, but enough that you won't get a return while sharpshooting jigs without turning the console unit off.

I have two units on the console, with transducers on opposite corners, that seems to work well, no interference that I can see, even with both of them on side scan.

one of those boards Sounds like a good idea....I’ll check into that

everything I read says try to get transducer in the middle...but that’s not going to happen on my boat...too small

I usually try to fish down the right had side...so I think that the side scan...will allow me to choose one side to scan...might be eliminating some water by only looking at one side...but I can’t see very good closeup...so I think I’ll get a bigger picture if only looking at one side

not planning on using side scan while on plane...so I think that it would be fine out there on the edge so to speak.  I’d like to get some sort of protection for it...gonna google around on that idea

i wasn’t sure about the interference but I can handle turning one off to use the other if it creates a problem...I was worried it might mess something up Internally or something

thanks

That's what I always read too. Had mine in the center for a while, worked okay. When I redid the transom last winter, I moved it to the outside corner. It works better there than it ever did before. Even reads on plane.
