They must be awesome.  Mine were only good for a couple of miles.

These say 38 miles. Most areas where I hunt I have no phone signal. Which makes my onX GPS a pain. But my regular GPS works but it works off Satellites.

The areas I hunt years ago I used Base Unit and did well but had a Big Antenna.

The only way you will ever know is to buy them and head out for the ticks and chiggers.  Let us know how they work.

I have 2 high dollar sets of Motorola FRS/GMRS radios that we used to use while fishing/hunting/camping, they are basically line of sight. If there is a hill between you the usefulness goes to hell.   If both of you are on hilltops or along a riverbed then  5-8 miles is doable.

I still use them for the weather radio function.

Midland was what I had we used them before cell phones.  They were good for line of sight only and only part of the time.  They are in a landfill.

I have forgotten now, but there is a small band of channels  6-7-8 or 7-8-9 that have more power (distance capability) than the rest.   A Google search on the topic should unearth the answer.

But yeah, cellphones are way better, especially with the option to text.   Nothing more irritating than somebody keying you up demanding that you reply immediately when you're right in the middle of something.    I'd rather text than talk on the phone or a walkie talkie any day.

Before Cell Phones by where I lived if someone was doing something illegal and he had CB someone else would be listening to Scanner relaying what the law was doing.

Cell Phones put a stop to that.
