For all you camera buffs out there, are there that much differences between the iphone 11, 12, and 12PRO to justify the extra costs?  I'm fixing to move up from my current iphone 6 and can't really see that there is that much advantage to get a 12 or 12pro to justify the higher cost versus the 11.

Getting 5G, an A14 chip, oled display versus the iphone 11 isn't that big a deal for me so it kind of boils down to camera differences and as I am just an amateur photographer I'm not convinced that that is even worth the extra money.

Would appreciate any thoughts.  One final thing-due to my age this may very well be the last phone I ever buy so just maybe I should go with the latest technology.

The only real difference with the cameras between the 12 and 11 is the 12 can do 30fps HDR video recording. The Pro adds another camera but I think the other two are the same quality as the regular 12.

12 also adds the MagSafe charging capability, better glass, and better water resistance. If none of those other things matter along with what you said doesn’t matter I’d save my money and get the 11 unless you need the additional fanciness of the Pro and have a money tree.

I didn’t look it up, but I believe the 12 has three cameras and the third is more telephoto.

The 12 pro has the 3rd lens. I have no idea what the cost difference is.

The new IPhone 12 Pro has Lidar technology. My brother in law used it scan some basic objects (only 3 mm resolution but still ok.) with a certain app, he scanned some items and I brought it into my modeling software and extracted some basic measurements that were pretty much right on. Amazing stuff

Sounds pretty cool but why would that be needed for 99.9% of the folks that would buy that phone?

You’re correct, just a really cool app for making 3D artwork. It also enhances photo quality they say in the portrait mode.

I figured that folks aren't going to be scanning unexplored caves or finding Mayan burial mounds in the jungle with their phones too often, which is where I have seen most LIDAR work
