BilletHead Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 Bucktails and squirrel hides, The bucktails like I have done before except no salt or borax. Just bone out, scrape off flesh wash and in dish soap then rinse with water. This degreases the skin. pull tight and nail to board hair down to dry. No smell just keep dry. Yes I know I could spend 4.95 to 7.95 plus shipping on tails. I don't dye for colors but do use a bunch of white. I have around 20 done including previous years. Money saved worth the time. Squirrel skins. Tanned a few last year. Pretty for laying around but for shaving for dubbing this is the way to go. Like hitting the easy button. Same process of deer tails. Just rawhide with hair on. Shave off hair and mix for what you want. Feed skin to dog it will love you forever. nomolites, FishnDave, fishinwrench and 4 others 7 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Dutch Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 Good looking work there bud. There was a time that I would have been trying to get those tails from you back when George was wanting 90 dozen jigs at a time. BilletHead 1

Dutch Posted January 26, 2021 Posted January 26, 2021 They were producers down there. I’ve gotten to where I use them mostly at night on lower Stockton in April and May. BilletHead 1

I'm getting back into tying--both jigs and flies and could use inspiration.

Flysmallie Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 I'm going to start shipping you all the dead squirrels I find. "Hey Charli Suzi!! Get your big butt out in the backyard and catch Mr Billethead some squirrels. But don't mangle them all up like you usually do." BilletHead 1
