Quillback Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 Launched at first light and fished until 1030 AM. Cold morning for this time of year, had the hoodie on to start the day. Fished a Surge Shad early, caught one 12" smallmouth on it, lost another one that looked to be decent sized and had several swings and misses. Went to the Keitech and at first was throwing it up close to the bank and bringing it back - that worked a couple of weeks ago, but not so much now. Started running the Keitech deep, as in 20 feet down right off the bottom and started to get fish, it was never hot fishing, but a bite here and there. Got a couple that were over deep water and hit the bait on the drop. By the time I left, I had a dozen bass and a couple of keeper walleye that I did not keep. One of the wallies had a messed up back. Very little striper top water activity, I cruised around quite a bit early looking for some but never saw anything significant. Picked up some milfoil (I think that's what it is) in several places when dragging the swim bait off the bottom. WT 70. nomolites, BilletHead, MarkG52 and 6 others 9
liphunter Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 Nice Jeff. That first walleye should be checked for covid! Quillback 1 Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???
Dutch Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 Nice trip. When I used to fish Beaver I could only catch largemouth. I didn’t even know that it had smallmouth.
Quillback Posted June 5, 2021 Author Posted June 5, 2021 I believe that the smallmouth population has increased over what it was in the past. I've been fishing Beaver for about 13 years now, so didn't get a chance to see what it fished like before that. Johnsfolly 1
Members derekburleson Posted June 7, 2021 Members Posted June 7, 2021 We ran around from Indian Creek to point 5 early Saturday and didn't see any topwater action either. Looked like the striper guides we're having a slow go as well. Caught a few LM on a spook off one tree but otherwise pretty slow. Quillback 1
MarkG52 Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 That is one wonky looking wally! No report from me this week. Went up to Cassville to Fishers of Men Resort for BBQ and Gospel sing. Some friends of ours just recently bought the resort and gave it a big overhaul. They had a friends and family event Saturday so took the day off from fishing. They were sure packed in at RR.
