Members jbadrian Posted August 19, 2021 Members Posted August 19, 2021 My wife and I are headed down on Friday for her birthday and we are heading back Monday. Our only plan is to fish and take naps. I looked at the generation chart for Saturday and Sunday and they are not planning on running water very much at all. My wife is not interested in wading, she enjoys to float and fish. The problem is whenever we are there and there is no water running I seem to be completely incapable of catching fish. What do you guys recommend when the water is off from a boat? When the water is on I am usually throwing sculpin jigs or jerk baits while my wife drifts a power worm. Thanks. Johnsfolly and trythisonemv 2
Travis Swift Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 My very very first suggestion is 2 pound test line. You could get some 7x tippet and tie a leader also if you wanted to fish a midge. I would say water off would be midge and micro jigs, if it's sunny and slick like that I like natural colors on the micro's. Basically forget the jerkbait if they aren't running any water. Small jigs straight in natural colors like sculpin or black if the water is off. Get on the water EARLY, then go nap mid day when the sun gets up. If your wife wants to fish bait I would suggest night crawlers. I'm sure others will have other suggestions but that's what I go with when the water is off, line size is very important. 2 will get you triple the bites that 4 will perhaps more alot of times. Lastly enjoy being there together and have fun! trythisonemv, Johnsfolly and crazy4fishin 3
Members jbadrian Posted August 19, 2021 Author Members Posted August 19, 2021 Thanks. When your fishing micro jigs are you using a float or are you actually casting and jigging? Mid-day naps are our specialty on our trips down there Johnsfolly and trythisonemv 1 1
trythisonemv Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 I have no boat experience but you can fish from the bank around outlet one and two pretty easily. Try scuds under an indicator also. Lots of boat guys post float and fly as a successful choice. I usually like to wade but scuds are never a bad choice on taney especially the upper end and trophy area. Johnsfolly 1

I have had success running midge and scuds under an indicator at Taney. I have not used microjigs there, but do use them a lot at the trout parks. If I can see and reach fish with just cating the microjig (using 2# line of course) I will not use a float and will add action to the jig while watching the fish respond. If the fish are farther away or I cannot see them (too deep) I will use a float and may just let it drift or give it a little movement. I would think that both techniques should work at Taney as well. Good luck and post photos 😁. trythisonemv 1
Travis Swift Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 I always use a float for midge and micro and the smallest I can get away with. I like to use the little pinch on floats that are like a sticker for midge fishing trythisonemv and Johnsfolly 2
Members jbadrian Posted August 19, 2021 Author Members Posted August 19, 2021 I love to wade fish the upper area when the water is off. I lived in Hollister for 6 months and did that at least 2 times a week. But that was 11 years ago and that fishing doesn't interest my wife at all. She just likes to float on the boat. I do hope to go wade down there after dark at least once while I am around. trythisonemv 1
