That guy saw it coming, I am a chicken I would have been headed for the nearest harbor at top speed.

With them being as far off shore as they were with the way those storms were coming across the Keys there was no safe direction to head to a port that wasn't going to be in the path of the storms.  You can see their location with the blue dot on the radar and they were pretty well surrounded.
