My wife thought about one of those seats with handles on each side to push up. I think this is better because I would mess up a bunch getting up. oneshot
Fish24/7
I put an order in for a truckload of river bottom dirt back in early February, still waiting for the bottoms to dry out so he can get the equipment in there to get it. Three snows and one rain and it's impossible to get it right now. Kinda wanted the beds and containers to already be filled and amended by now and the microbial life to get established before I plant in them.. 😐 now they say we could get several inches rain next week, so it's gonna be another few weeks before I can get any dirt , dang. Went ahead and started the tomato plants inside this week. 🍅 I'm gonna have to sell a thousand pounds of tomatoes to cover my costs this year 😄 150lbs of worm castings was $150 , and I've seen it priced a lot lot higher than that. I picked up some manure free compost, azomite, marine biochar, kelp meal ,alfalfa meal, neem meal, crab meal, fish bone meal, feather meal, soybean meal, rock phosphorus, granular potash, zeolite , 4lbs of 3-10-0 granular nutes ,mychorrizae, and 4 lbs of 4-18-38 to mix with water if ever needed . Regular bag granular fertilizer like 12-12-12 was so expensive it was a bit cheaper to go with the organic sources of N-P-K. Made a few phone calls to "build a soil" and they helped me get started on building a living soil recipe they use on all their crops. So yeah all that including the worm stuff was around $475. Not bad but had to shop all over the USA to find the best prices. Didn't even buy a single item local stores were just crazy prices, ,well except the local dirt, which I don't have yet, was a really good price so he'll get paid whenever I get my dirt. .will be spending about $700-800 just to get started this year. Doing things entirely different this season . Good news is I'll have a Farmers market just down the street from me this year which means I'll save hundreds in gas money not having to drive 25-100 miles round trip every other weekend to the other markets. Gonna start some radishes and maybe some lettuce today. span widget

Work ground up and it was gravely but that was what was give you. You planted and did fine. I bought a place one time. Old Dairy Farm on Prairie Ground should have great dirt. The former owner had sold all the Top Soil and buried junk all over. I was not happy. oneshot

I'm trying to use more raised beds and containers this year. I will put some plants in the ground but the hole will be filled with good dirt not spent yard dirt . The ground around the house here is so hard cme summertime you can't even put a dent in it with a shovel and its full of rock. You can grow stuff in it but takes a lot of effort. This year it's gonna be easy, just water the beds and containers when needed . Top dress if/ when needed. It's a new experience so I'm excited to get started. jdmidwest
Finished off phase one of the garden this year today. Over the last few weeks after work, I have shoveled up one deep bed. Hoe tilled a cold crop bed and planted with lettuce, spinach, and sugar peas. Dug up a strawberry bed and replaced with new Everbearing roots. Dug the runner strawberries from last season and planted them in the block cells. Expanded the asparagus bed and added strawberries around it. Covered all with wire mesh to keep the cats out of it. Fertilized. Stirred the compost and added more. Compost and deep bed.
