FishnDave Posted August 15, 2022 Author Posted August 15, 2022 These are 2 different individual Grass Carp: Johnsfolly and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
FishnDave Posted August 17, 2022 Author Posted August 17, 2022 Got out after work yesterday evening. Also caught a largemouth bass (not pictured). BilletHead, Johnsfolly and Daryk Campbell Sr 3
FishnDave Posted August 18, 2022 Author Posted August 18, 2022 Tried again. Clearer water, very spooky fish. NO grass carp this time! Ouch! One catfish, both sides....so many spots! Gar with a broken lower jaw, hanging on by skin. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
FishnDave Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 New-to-me spot. Water was really muddy with an orange skim floating on top. Saw lots of bowfin gulping/rolling, couldn't buy a strike. Had a nice gar on that shook free. Caught a good Drum. ...and a GIANT clam! BilletHead, Johnsfolly and Daryk Campbell Sr 3
BilletHead Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Oh, Dave Drum on the fly always nice! Let's get to the important stuff now. Whay fly did you catch the trophy mussel on? Have you got an ID on it yet so you can put it on your spreadsheet? 😁 Daryk Campbell Sr 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" BilletHead " One thing in life is for sure. If you are careful you can straddle the barbed wire fence but make one mistake and you will be hurting" BilletHead P.S. "May your fences be short or hope you have long legs" BilletHead

I believe this beast is called a "Giant Floater", Pyganodon grandis. Not to be confused with the other Giant Floater....like the Baby Ruth from Caddyshack movie: BilletHead, Daryk Campbell Sr and Johnsfolly 3
FishnDave Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 Bowfin! Bowfin were on my "bucket list" for many years. With the help of @Ham I finally caught a baby one (@ 5") on my fly rod earlier this year. Now for an "adult" one....A week ago, I visited a new spot, and saw many bowfin surfacing. Water was really muddy. I didn't catch any. When water is muddy, bowfin rely on their sense of smell. So, I bought some lure scent to add to my flies if that became necessary. I fished the same place this weekend. I caught the first bowfin on an unscented fly. After that, I added scent to see if it helped. It certainly didn't hurt. I ended up catching 3 bowfin, and lost at least 5 others that shook free. Pretty awesome! BilletHead, nomolites, kjackson and 3 others 6
