Members Davem Posted February 19, 2022 Members Posted February 19, 2022 Hi, I'll be in the area in April, 3rd week. All I want to catch are trout (spin or fly) I've never been in the area and I was going to spend one day along the white river below the Bull Shoals Dam. It looks like there are various access points I can wade or fish from a bank. The next day I was going to move up to Branson and do the same thing along Taneycomo. I'm not certain whether Taneycomo is small enough to fish from shore. On the White River I already have some spots I thought I'd try, at the dam, White Hole, Wildcat Hole, The narrows, Cotter, Roundhouse Shoals, Rim Shoals. Then over to the tailwater at Norfolk. Are any of those spots okay? Only for boats? Etc. On Taneycomo I figured maybe right down from the dam is best, not sure. As I said, I'll be fishing from shore or wading. I prefer spin but I also do fly fishing and have caught a lot fly fishing. Probably catch and release, not sure on that. Thanks for any advice.
Dutch Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 Check the lake levels. They could be in flood stage discharging lots of water into the rivers.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 19, 2022 Root Admin Posted February 19, 2022 Dutch is right. You're picking tailwaters and everything is based on generation. We could write a book for you... actually I have written several articles on fishing various flows on Taney on this site - but we can't tell you right now what generation will be. Chances are it will be high no matter where you go - with spring rains - but you never know. Wait till closer to the date (2 weeks to 10 days) and you'll have a better idea what you're looking at. dpitt 1
fshndoug Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 Be sure to check the regs on keeping fish on Taneycomo and the lure regs on all tailwaters
Members Davem Posted February 23, 2022 Author Members Posted February 23, 2022 Well doing some research, it looks like 65000 rainbows are stocks below Bull shoals dam. Initially I was going to do a "run and gun" Fish an hour near the dam, then hit a half dozen holes downstream and finally the tailwater at Norfork BUT now I'm thinking that maybe the best place is right below the dam, just stay there. I'm wondering if Table Rock Dam is the same, just stay below the dam.
gotmuddy Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 IMO that time of year your best bet for fishable water is below norfork dam or over on the spring river in Hardy. Terrierman 1 everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Members Davem Posted February 24, 2022 Author Members Posted February 24, 2022 Thanks, I was considering that. gotmuddy 1
