Bill Babler Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 Have not seen any gulls up the White this year till the last several days. Lake seems to be full of them the last 3 days from Campbell Point up to Shell Knob. Probably 3 dozen in Hobbs Hollow diving the lake as I write this. Man it’s windy here. Wonder if the Shad have come to the surface or are having a die off as the birds are hard at work. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 28, 2023 Root Admin Posted February 28, 2023 Probably sunning themselves up close to the surface.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I havent seen many shad in the river this year,I assume that why im not seeing the birds. Im mainly speaking of the James: Flat area. Eagles are thick though
Quillback Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Was back in Indian Creek on Beaver Saturday. Area of a couple of football fields in size was wall to wall and top to bottom full of 2 inch shad. No birds feeding on them, and very few bass around them. But some of them were dying, very few percentage wise, but there was a bit of a die-off going on.
edwin Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Dang it was windy...took until early afternoon to see another boat. I saw quite a few schools of shad yesterday in Aunts Creek up to Hideaway, most were near the surface to 15' deep. Lots of gulls munching on em but very few bass feeding on em. Ended up catching a bakers dozen with about 1/2 being keeps. 1 LM, rest were fat spots...holding really tight to brush pile and fallen trees on steep bank / bluffs in 15-25'. Lots of chasing a jerk bait and keitech. Jerkbait caught the LM in the windy point, Damiki worked over and thru the brush for the rest. magicwormman and Quillback 2 "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
