guys I am looking for a cell carrier that I can make or receive a call or text while on the lakes. sprints coverage on and around Stockton and Truman are non-existent and I would like to have the peace of mind that I can be reached or be able to get message to someone if needed.

None are complete.  The best I have found is Verizon, but it is sketchy around the mile long bridge and on Hwy 215 between Y and 245.

Ditto. Verizon will be the best but it will not be perfect. I have TMobile now, which is by far the best where I live, but pretty crappy South of Stockton or towards Pomme.

The “spot” satellite texting devices work anywhere with line of sight to the sky; don’t know the cost of the plan though.

I had Verizon while working but went to AT&T since.  The maps show AT&T has better coverage but I had better performance with Verizon.  In the Arcadia Valley I have a cell amp but coverage is less than ideal.  And while at Mark Twain Lake when my buddy Bob dropped my truck key in the lake we were calling around to get someone to bring my spare key.  We could see three towers but could not make a call. We both have AT&T.

I would like to thank you all for the input but changing phone plans for same coverage problems would not address the problem so I have purchased the spot satellite system and will give that a go

That sounds like the answer.  I have to be able to come home at a moment's notice.  But I have never had a problem sending or receiving texts.  I assume they consume less bandwidth.  But if I ever lose confidence in the process I will have to go to the Spot Satellite.
