Foghorn Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Susie and I took a half day trip to Montauk after hearing older brother say he saw a few brown trout in the park. We did the usual of getting to the park around 09:30 and got in the water around 10:00. Over the years, warmer temps and lower water levels seemed to push the browns closer to cold water in the campground. We started off just below the bridge leading to the campground and immediately started seeing fish. As we worked our way downstream, Susie said "hey there's one here that'll will go 5#. She offered the first shot to me and while I had a couple follows and one strike, I didn't connect on it. As we continued downstream we saw browns in the 12-18" class throughout the park. I did catch an 17.5-18" brown on the old reliable red fox squirrel nymph for my best catch of the day. We did catch some good 15-16" rainbows. Figured we saw at least 25 brown trout and caught 10 between us. Susie was using one of Laker 67 favorite patterns and I used the RFSN to catch most of the browns. We quit the last section above the "Electric Hole" and called it a good day. nomolites, Daryk Campbell Sr, trythisonemv and 1 other 4
jdmidwest Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Good report. How were the crowds? trythisonemv 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Foghorn Posted June 25, 2023 Author Posted June 25, 2023 Campground looked to be about 3/4 full but the stream wasn't overly crowded especially once it got past the lunch hour. trythisonemv 1
