Cynthia Ann Parker was kidnapped as a small girl and raised by Comanches. Not a happy ending in real life. She did have a very tough and tragic life. However her son Quanah Parker turned out to be a very respected individual. ness 1

Love Lonesome Dove. But… there’s a lot of good stuff out there. The Virginian by Owen Wister is a goodun. Terrierman and Quillback 2 John

rps Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 Guys, how many movies have they made from Louis L'Amour's books? Kinda like Raymond Chandler, L'Amour's penny a word stories built the genre. Wayne even did at least one - Hondo. Terrierman 1

Wayne even did at least one - Hondo. My dad loved Louis L’Amour and read a lot of his books. He picked up one and there was a character in it with our very uncommon last name. Dad wrote L’Amour and asked him how he happened upon that name. He got a letter back explaining it all. I’ve got a copy of the letter here. Quillback, BilletHead, rps and 2 others 5 John
FishnDave Posted March 4 Posted March 4 During our early high school Driver's Ed class drives, we would drive to Winterset, Iowa, and drive by John Wayne's boyhood home there. Incidentally, that is very near where Clint Eastwood & Merly Streep's movie "The Bridges of Madison County" was filmed. I also stayed at a Holiday Inn once. 😏 ness 1

Ate like an Iowegian at Iowa Machine Shed, went to a pretty good cidery in Winterset and visited Living History Farm in Urbandale, which is pretty cool. Something about it reminded me of this place John
