Quillback Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Family is in town this week, took my nephew over to Beaver today. Good early bite on 5/16 oz jigs, we caught 20-25 smallmouth this morning. Majority of the bites were before 0930. The smallmouth have moved off the bank for the most part, we were getting them in 10-20 FOW. Some scattered stripers on top, they were up early, but by 0700 or so the activity stopped. Must be a bazillion cicadas back in the woods, lots of noise. Still have yet to see one, they seem to be staying back in the woods. WT 71. Johnsfolly, Lance34, snagged in outlet 3 and 4 others 7
Dutch Posted May 18 Posted May 18 I’m glad you got to get out. How’s the curtesy and launch ramp with this high water. It’s good to know that the jig is finally working again. I like Ned but am ready for something else. Was there a swim bait bite? My wife is wanting to get out. The trip to Cape Fair wasn’t very enjoyable for her. With all of the derbies on the Rock and Stockton I think I will go up to your end of the lake in the morning hoping for fewer boats that way and some clear water.

I haven't been out in a week but last time I was out, a "get some sun" trip for my wife, I could only get bit on the swimbait primarily with little love for the Ned. Note that this trip was a noon to 3 trip. Got about 15 smallmouth. Nothing photo worthy. Planning on getting out there early Monday or Tuesday. snagged in outlet 3 and Quillback 2

Caught a couple of smallies that were spitting up shad, so I bet it would work. The dock is positioned well and there's not a lot of ramp left to back down. Much easier walk back to the truck. 😀 Lots more rec boats out there. Johnsfolly 1

Dutch Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Big M was very busy today, lots of bow riders and toons along with more glitter sleds than I have ever seen in that area. Quillback 1

sfiser Posted May 20 Posted May 20 I was out on yesterday and 4-5 of the fish I caught looked like they hadn't spawned. I had a small mouth starting to let eggs go in my boat while I was removing the lure. Guess there is still a wave of fish that has to come in. Maybe the rising water held some fish off for an extra week or 2. The cicada's are really thick back in the Clifty arm's of the lake. Saw a few in the water but nothing eating them when I was in one little pocket. Quillback 1

sfiser Posted May 20 Posted May 20 2 hours ago, Quillback said: How is the water clarity in Clifty? It's clear, I would say 10-12+ feet of visibility, maybe slightly less in some of the little feeder arms. Out In the main lake area it was probably 15+ feet of visibility. Quillback 1
