Pretty light, 4 gallons out of 3 hives. Pretty sad, most said too wet this spring and they could not forage well. Bummer, Did really good here I think. A little over ten gallons. We were amazed. We left plenty for them to winter on also and probably could of taken more but don't want to take chances by being greedy. nomolites, Daryk Campbell Sr and Terrierman 3 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" No work for you and you can benefit from the pollination and have a few jars of free honey. My grandfather and I used to do that on other people property around the area. We had a dozen or so hives spread out all over. BilletHead and Daryk Campbell Sr 2 Anthony Linhardt

Good idea for you to think about @oneshot 1, I will also give you another suggestion or two when I see you. oneshot 1 Posted October 24 Author Posted October 24 I'm thinking of getting couple Hives. Thinking of getting African Nightcrawlers. They are pretty good size and Compost well. Going to plant more flowers and not have so many to sell. New deal run my Greenhouse from January on. Use a lot of Cuttings and have more plants in the house. oneshot BilletHead 1

Keeping Bees With a Smile | Natural Beekeeping | Horizontal Hives Some reading before you decide what hive to choose. This is what we are doing. Listen to @jdmidwest when he talks about the Langsdorf hives also if you are serious about getting into beekeeping. You told me also that your son was interested in beekeeping. At your age and your health status take him on as a partner for the heavy stuff, you be the Forman on the job. There is commitment in the hobby for the keeper. Less with the Layens hive but still some hands-on stuff. At the top of the link are plans for the long hives. Look at this also. Hives of any type like everything else is getting expensive to buy and make. I built all our hives but both hives I use and the ones Jdmidwest uses can be made much cheaper. oneshot 1 Posted October 25 Author Posted October 25 Ok major problems with Bees. One Arm is messed up from Elbow down. If I have to use it I have to move it with my good Arm. I can not lift it above my Chest and if I go to move it out I have to move it with my other Arm. My wife just had to cut a piece of meat up for me. I was trying to cut a piece up one time. I had my fork holding the meat, next thing I know it went across the room. I'm left just looking at it thinking I really wanted that. Then I fall down often because of one Leg. If I fall down I can't get up. I have to call someone to get me up. Yes my son is interested but he don't hold interest very long. oneshot

They find it can be alot of work and is rather expensive and time consuming. But it is an interesting hobby. That's about how long my nephew lasted after we built hives, got a spinner, the outfits, everything. Beekeeping is fun, but a lot of work and filled with pitfalls that can quickly take the fun (and most of the honey) out of it. BilletHead and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
