Members Nightbrew Posted December 23, 2024 Members Posted December 23, 2024 My dad has an Alweld jon boat. I think it's a 1748. He measured from the top to the bottom of the transom and got 16". I haven't had a chance to get over there and get a measurement from a straight edge from the bottom of the boat. That being said the transom should be less than 16". I assume this puts in the short shaft category? Any input is appreciated.
fishinwrench Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Puts it in the Jet category. yowoodchuck 1

Members Nightbrew Posted December 24, 2024 Author Members Posted December 24, 2024 I don't have any pics available at the moment but I can get some the next time I visit. He bought the boat and trailer new, sometime in the 90's. He put a 25hp 2 stroke merc on it, that he had on another boat. The motor is still on the boat but has not ran in years. I'm not sure of the year of the motor, and I also think it is a long shaft. I can get that measurements as well if needed. He is weighing his options to have the old motor gone through or get something newer. I know where you stand on that topic wrench. Thanks again
Members GotaFish Posted Friday at 01:51 AM Members Posted Friday at 01:51 AM I apologize in advance for this response, but I took a poll at the New Year's Party I was attending and it was unanimous, if given the option all of the ladies would go with the "Long Shaft" gotmuddy 1

Jet transoms are 20" 16" transom would be for a short shaft motor. snagged in outlet 3 and Terrierman 2 everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

That's why I requested to see a pic of the boat. 17' boats aren't regularly built with short transoms.......So I question if someone didn't modify the transom for a jet application.

If they modified the transom for a jet it would not be 16", it would be 20". You need more transom for a jet, not less. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
