Heard yesterday they are talking about taking out Tunnel Dam.

They do this the whole river might dry up.

It already is almost unfloatable.

Wasn't there talk of this before?   Why would it dry up?

There is so much open area between the lake and dam. The water has to go somewhere and the river already is lowest I've seen it in 30 years.

Heck can't really float it now. They go to working on 64HWY bridge that will stop any floating down under it.

The dam doesn't make any water, whatever water there is,  is what there  is. It's not a flood control dam nor used to store  water, it's just there to raise the head height.  Dam removal would not take any water out of the river's flow, it would mean that some lake front property becomes 'lost in the woods' property, but it would also mean that floaters would not have to portage the dam, and that the river would become wild again over time. Take out Bagnell too and over enough time the eels might return to Niangua River. The USGS gage shows 282CFS and that should be plenty for a float, it's more than twice what Little Sugar is flowing and everyone says it's floatable.

I doubt that they allow floating through the construction though, so during that time you'd be right about no floating.

The dam only backs up 8-12' of water.   Removing it would only alter the river level elevation for less than 3 miles upstream.

From what I understand because the Lake is so low it is kinda trashy.

It's kinda funny......The last time I was on it the number of empty red mesh Stream Team litter bags made up 80% of the visible trash.

Truth I haven't been down there in years.
