Danoinark Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 From Singlebarb's Blog Posted: 09 Feb 2008 06:25 AM CST Max that sucker for God and Country Like it or not it’s an election year and the current regime feels obligated to safeguard the economy until December, so’s they can blame whatever party takes power shortly thereafter. It’s a time-honored tradition, and with $600 bucks hurtling your way - coupled with your patriotic duty to blow it in an orgy of consumption, we ask - which flyrod are you gonna buy? Yes, I’m talking to you, no need to glance around panic stricken.. The commandments are simple; you’re not allowed to bank it, you can’t pay off your mortgage with it, and you’re Al-Qaeda if you contemplate anything like paying down your credit card balance. It’s $600 and anything short of a consumer frenzy is simply unacceptable. It’s 270 flies (with tax) which should represent a full season for most fishermen, except me, as the Little Stinking is a preserve for Charles Schultz’s “deadly kiting eating trees” and their offspring, the “deadly fly eating low hanging scrub” - even then, 270 flies is most of a weekend. It’s one reel and extra spool, so long as you covet one of the large arbor “economy stimulating hand tooled aircraft grade something-or-other” - you’ll still have to pop for the fish graphic abstract, but we’ll call you a “super patriot” and can quail hunt with Dick Cheney if you opt for the any of the custom finishes. It’s most of a flyrod actually, you may be able to get a whole one if you order it off the Internet, but that would raise the “commie” issue as you avoided sales tax entirely. You’d still get to meet Dick, but your cell phone calls are taped for posterity. What’s plain to me is that none of us will qualify, because even knowing about this gear means you make far too much money already. … and that’s an ugly thought - that last rod purchase made you miss the mortgage payment, and we’re the cause of the entire debacle? Say it ain’t so… http://singlebarbed.com/2008/02/09/at-leas...ead-and-wonder/ Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 I don't think I'll get it but, I'll probably fill the tank on the Yukon and by some #18 dry fly hooks I've been out of. Yep that ought to cover it. SIO3
JobyKSU Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 I've been eyeing one of the ought-weight TXL kits - that's about half of my share. ::. JobyKSU Tippet Breaker Extraordinaire
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 9, 2008 Root Admin Posted February 9, 2008 This whole thing burns me... giving money away they don't have. And it won't do anything for the economy, esp long range. This is setting a precedent... if you feed the electorate when times get just alittle tight, they'll maul you every time some economists yells "recession!"
Danoinark Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 I agree. There sure are a lot of domestic programs they could have spent money on that would help vs a rebate check. I even heard one radio talk show caller that said he was going to send his back because he considered it welfare. Other callers said ending the war and getting troops home would do more for the economy than anything. Lots of differing opinions on the subject I am sure. Gavin Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Think I'll stuff mine in my Roth IRA. I dont think its going to do anything for the economy but I'm still glad to get a portion of my money back. Wish they took less in the first place. Cheers.
jjtroutbum Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Saw the S&W version of the AR15 on sale. A couple hundred more bucks on top of the rebate (handout) and I'll get one of those. patfish Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Well, if the single white male gets anything back,( last time they did something silly like this I got $27. Whoo hooo!) I plan on using it to fund 10 days of vacation in May. Bennett Springs for a few hours the first day, head to Springfield, drink some beers with some old friends, crash. Head to Baxter at Table Rock, set up camp. Rent a pontoon and cruise on the TRL, bass fish. Hit Taney a few times. Spend a day at Roaring River, and whatever else strikes our fancy. Rebate check or not, its been on the books for months. Does this count?
