Well I fished the James 4 days last week . First two days were on Springfield Lake . Day 3 Kerr to Galena , and day 4 Delaware to Shelvin.

First two days on springfield lake were pretty tough . Found a huge group of fish in a small backwater but they were stingy . Only caught two little guys each day .
Day three we did Kerr to Galena my first time on this stretch of river and I was impressed by the bluffs and fishable water . Only had one bite that pulled loose that day . Saw several really nice walleye cruising around but they were not interested in the JerkBait .
Day 4 was Delaware to Shelvin and I finally got on some fish . This was early this week and I’m sure the water had warmed substantially. The water color was off compared to lower on the river but I believed that helped the fishing . First spot I got into them and caught 4 on 4 cast biggest being a 15 inch Smallie . Every spot the river got right I would catch them . Hooked into an absolute beauty a little further down . Finished the day with 14 fish with a nice spotted bass and 2 smallmouth over 15 inches .

Did you have to drag at all?

I'm not sure how it was when he was on the river but I think it will be a few days before you have to worry about dragging now.

True, guess I was just subconsciously hoping that the rain would stop and it would return to about the level it was prior. I'm supposed to go on a Good Friday fishing float and last year we had to cancel because of all the rain, year before that it was fast enough that it wasn't easy to fish.

I'm sure it will be fine by then. I'm off until next Thursday so it should be high and muddy now thru Wednesday, and then be perfect on Thursday. It never fails.

Kerr to Galena was flowing around 900 cfs definitely no dragging down there . Delaware to Shelvin was fine . I had to walk my boat through the rapid with the big tree on the island . And another spot where it splits I had to walk . Probably could have floated through either of them if you know the line . I just didn’t want to dump in that cold water by myself

I looked at the gauges this morning they are definitely shooting up , although I wouldn’t call it a blow out yet ... but we will see when it all hits the river in the next day . I finally figured them out and now it’s all going to change
