  1. Lived in Coon Rapids, Minn. through the 8th grade.........ice augers come to mind.
  2. Good Lord, that pop in my nose brought tears to my eyes.........
  3. Solo Pro tournament on Sunday they were out scouting today. We went to RB to launch but there must have been......well a crap load of boats. They were parked beyond the lot by a couple of blocks at least. Ended up launching at Crabtree. Not bad except when we came back in for a quick stop some ding dongs in a pontoon decided they were going to stay tied at the dock while they ate lunch. Everybody else used the upwind side or slid into the dockless slots. Caught one short walleye third cast and that was it for the entire boat for 4+ hours. Too hot for the ladies so we were done.
  4. Have you checked out those new Buicks???
  5. Yes sir. We live just south of Omaha. Spent some time a few years ago looking at Ozark lakes and felt real comfortable with the Stockton area so we bought a little place here. Quite a drive but worth it.
  6. Sounds like fun! We'll be in Stockton this weekend and June 9....we think. My brother & sister-in-law are traveling and would like to visit our Stockton experience. Must be rough to be semi-retired and roll whenever, eh? Them, not us.
  7. There's lights out on ramps around Stockton too....must be the 'green' effect. Makes loading a boat after dark a tad more difficult, eh?

    Walleyes

    Finally! Someone speaks.......oh......you were being.......oh........
  9. "....windy locals"....that explains the incessant wind on Stockton.
  10. My boys are the same way, Dennis......and then they lay the hot sauce on so thick my eyes water. Go figure.
  11. Fantastic day. More shorts than keepers but ended up with 5 crappie, 3 walleye, 1 huge bass, had a blast getting hit pretty steady. Lost another biggy on a new hook we tried, hardly any barb on the darn thing. Not certain what brand it is but they're red. Tried one a second time and same thing. Set the hook and lost it close to the boat. Good for a rush though! We found fish at numerous depths, gravel, rock face, didn't really matter. Used worms, artificial minnows, misc. plastics. in bright green and orange.
  12. Going to hit the water in about an hour. Thanks for the info Mike.
  13. Just bought a new cranking battery this morning. Had an Optima in it, only lasted 3 seasons. What I bought was an AC Delco Voyager, C24HP, rated 800 cca which is the same as the Optima....don't know why it pooped out. The tender seems to be working as the trolling batteries (Delco) hold good volts.
  14. Was it that bad? Dang.
  15. "............ I am from Northern Michigan..." Me too. Born in Marquette. Thanks for the reports. Stuck in Omaha with the start of an early construction season otherwise we'd be on Stockton with you! Looks like a few weeks yet before we head down....save us some fish, guys.
  16. But in the wind he's still alive....
  17. Not on here he isn't!
  18. Ron, Totally off topic....anyone ever told you that Ted Nugent kinda looks like you?
  19. I'm good with just being on the water. Catch some fish....great for a rush, I'm even happier! I just enjoy trying to guess what the presentation needs to be and if I'm right....cool.Grandkids on the fish, now that's what I can get excited about.
  20. When my mom first got her place in Grand Lake 25+ years ago Grand Lake was very quaint. But about 15 years ago they started building just about anywhere. If you know the area you'll remember the trout pond right on the curve as you go by on the highway. That's developed now with a log motel ( looks cool). The price of homes got a little crazy there for awhile. Still a cool place to visit though.
  21. I am ambidextrous however as I get older my strength seems to be increasing to the right (not decreasing on the left!). My Dad spent many years trying to make me a dominant righty including fishing. A left hand retrieve was offered to me about 15 years ago on a Canada trip.....and it was 'right'. From that point on everything I own has a left retrieve. My right hand is more sensitive on the line so all in all it works perfect.
  22. .....and then it hit me.....fish ing wrench. As many times as I've read your enlightened boatanical responses....good Lord I'm getting denser as I get older.
  23. Up until a couple of years ago my mom had a home in Grand Lake. Nice area in the summer but she was out of there and back to Texas when the dog's water dish started to freeze. I do remember seeing at least 3 companies right in town and it amazed me the number of sleds they had and how current they kept them. The town itself doesn't have a lot to offer entertainment wise, pretty small actually. If you go you have to have Sunday brunch at the Lodge, assuming they're open year round. I would think Estes Park might have outfitters too.
  24. We are dogless right now. Had to put our black lab down last spring. Many years of companionship and one of the smartest dogs I've ever known. Enjoying our 'granddogs' right now, our son's yellow labs. Not certain just when we might start another relationship with a dog again.
  25. The CougarLife .Com could be useful........ just sayin'
