Ron and I had 17 keepers between us on Monday. We put in at a mid lake ramp about 9:45am with a light breeze blowing, water temp about 48*, and the air temp was about 45* and rising. We started out with a bottom bouncer but after fishing for an hour and a half we only had a couple of dinks in the boat. Both fish we caught hit right at the boat so we figured they weren't on the bottom. They were chasing something so Ron put on a bait that swims instead of bounces and hooked a 5 pounder and got her right up to the side of the boat. I dug around for the net but before I could get it free she had come unbuttoned.... Dang I was sick, and so was he. Two casts later another good fish buttoned up and we got her in the boat this time. Well, my momma didn't raise no fool so as quick as I could I put on the same bait Ron was throwing and we commenced to have a hay day...... We caught 'em and caught 'em and caught 'em...... Maybe it was this cold front moving in, I don't know, but they definitely had the feed bag on. It was awesome.

Back to Table Rock with Deano.....

When the bite was tough I swam a grub for about 40 years. I could always get bit on a Kalin or a Gary Yamamoto Hula Grub. Then Chompers came along with their salt and garlic and they became my go to. If the water was stable and slowing warming in the spring you could stay right on 'em trip after trip. Then someone introduced me to the dang Ned Rig and its got me ruined. I try to stay away from it but I can't do it.... It just keeps on drawing bites.... It unbelievable..... -
Dean picked me up at the house at a few minutes before 8am. Backed in to the water at Campbell Point at 9:20... Air temp 34*, water temp. 44.5*. Fished pretty hard for about an hour without a biter. After throwing all my favorite winter baits trying to keep from throwing the Ned without even a smell..... I finally picked up the Ned rig and starting throwing it. Another hour without a bite when finally my buddy Dean broke the ice with nice fat largemouth on a peanut butter and jelly TRD. It was another hour and a half latter before I landed my first fish, then my second, both dinks on a "perfect perch" TRD. After fishing several more minutes I finally picked up my first keeper.... another chunky largemouth. We found them scattered, just one here and there. Then, the last hour and a half before dark as the shadows got long the better fish came out to play and we had a ball....

Kentuckies and bluff ends go together like peas and carrots in the winter time...... I know there is no such thing as a sure thing.... but its close.

Friday 1/28 put in at 10:30am. Air temp 27*... water temp 44.5*. Loaded back up at 1:30pm. Never got above 34*. Caught a bunch of kentuckies again, better than last time..... and had a ball.....The Ned is magic.....

Stopped at the Hardy's in Branson West and picked up a couple breakfast sandwiches and black coffee and met my buddy Gary at his cabin. Launched at about 9:30am and headed to one of our favorite bluff ends. Third cast with my perfect perch ned rid got blasted by a little fat kentucky. They bit pretty good all day. Anytime I get to fish on or around my birthday its a bonus. The weather can be pretty "iffy" this time of year. Anytime we tough it out though it seems to pay off. We threw all the usual winter stuff. We found deep fish but couldn't get 'em to bite on anything. So... we just settled down to our bluff end pattern and put a good number in the boat..... Happy Birthday to me. And thank you to Gary.

Thursday last week was an absolutely awesome day to fish. The weather was beautiful and the fish were biting..... Picked several up early on a ned rig. As it got bright and warm the fish started chasing bait so they didn't want the bottom bouncer anymore. I was throwing a wiggle wart, Ron was throwing a rock crawler. He was out fishing me 3:1 so I bummed a rock crawler off of him and started catching them better. We had 12 keepers and a handful of dinks. For December 9th we thought it was pretty good.....

What a great way to spend a few days with the guys. Last year I slept in a tent. It was 28* on Thursday night, and 26* on Friday. This year I slept in one of the campers.... a 37' Winnabego.....different world for sure. Fun, fishin', food, and fellowship.... It was awesome...
