  1. Hey Joe, it's pretty darn cold down there right now too! That should moderate in a few days though. Seriously though, some parts of Caddo are dangerously full of old oil field debris. You must run the channel markers very carefully. IF you're going that far, drive a little further and go to Toledo Bend. Caddo is tough for a first timer. Heck, go a little further and go to Cleco near Boyce. It's a power plant lake with a hot water discharge. You can fish some 78 degree water if you want.
  2. It varies, but mostly under 5K. I haven't been watching it very much. BSL has been getting all my attention of late.
  3. I use the same type gloves that Fly Smallie uses. I like the wool retaining heat concept, but the fleece ones are so easy to wring out when they get wet. They won't make you hands think it's summer, but I can fish through the cold.
  4. IF I'm in a yak this time of year, it's much more likely to be on Norfork than it is on the Buffalo. It won't hurt my feelings if the temps moderate a little bit.

Sorry man. I'm too far away for iffy weather and minimal fishing. We can try a warm weather/warm water trip in 2014.

Gee Whiz Man. I can catch > 200 Bluegills/ Longears/ Green Sunfish on surface flys in a day. You get bored after 20 chubs, but not after dozens of bluegill?
  7. I'll have Friday off so I'll be fishing Friday and Saturday. I'm willing to run my boat or ride with someone else. iF we take my boat, I'll have seats for two others. I really look forward to meaning everyone and the fishing.
  8. I use 8-10 foot rods with braid to the 3 way swivel, clip a float to another arm of the 3 way, and tie a fixed leader to the other arm. I also use Punisher jigs as well as a few others. I haven't caught fish like I want to or expected to so far. Having said that. I've caught all three black bass species, crappie, panfish, and Trout. If you are shore bound due to generation, you can scratch out trout with a FNF. You should shorten up you leader so that you don't hand up constantly and swing a jig in that current and catch trout. I caught about 5 trout an hour which I didn't think was too bad. The heavy current works the way for you. Just watch that bobber and lift when it acts differently.
  9. I'd love a day like that about now.
  10. Sounds like a great trip. I really prefer sun over rain on my river trips, but I'll fish regardless. I've released multiple walleye over 25 inches and then I kept one. I'll say I'm gonna keep walleye up to 26 inches and release the ones larger than that. The 25 inch ones eat just fine.
  11. Sounds like a great trip! Thanks for the report.
  12. Triple Olive and Olive / Ginger are what I look to first. I really would like to only carry about 6 colors. You have to have White for spring, but they will hit other colors then too. I'll always carry brown/orange. I want some version of black. All black or black/red or black/olive. I only need 1/8 oz and 1/16 oz but Richard swears by 1/32 oz on real low water. I don't know that we can plan where we fish until we see water flow. Heck, we may get a monster rain and have the river below the buffalo be a blown out brown wasteland. I'm not sure how many boats we want to have fishing the same section of water either, but we'll have different guys wanting to try different things too. I think we'll need to stay flexible.
  13. I'd like to fish out of a 48 inch hull to compare it to my 42 inch, BUT that doesn't to happen this trip. I think we're gonna have plenty of boat space to not fish 4 in a boat and maybe not everybody has to bring their boat. We can fine tune things a week or two out. I'd hate for someone to trailer a boat for hours when it isn't necessary. Of course, if I had the 48 inch hull I'd most likely step up to a 40 HP jet. LONG range planning though. I hope my current river boat last a LONG, LONG, time.
  14. Looking forward to it. I imagine I'll plan on sleeping in my crib, but I'll be down for visiting and fishing. I've got a jetboat that will fish three easy. I own a 17 canoe and 4 kayaks so I can help if we want to so a low water Norfork deal. We might want to think about a pot lock one night and other food options. As I mentioned before, I have lots of firewood for all if campfires are desired.

    Chubs I can catch!
  16. I love fishing. Hot or cold. Sunny or rainy. Windy or calm. I have decided to no longer fish when the predicted high is in teens or >110'. I also will not fish when the wind is gonna blow > 40 mph. I'll bitch and moan about bad weather from home on those days.

ohhh Ollie, I can only catch trout where they stock em by the millions. What's the chub population in that creek like?

I'm just being goofy Ollie. Pay me no mind.
  19. This is definitely NOT my favorite time of the year on the river. Water is so trashy. I took the wife for a QUICK tip yesterday afternoon, I felt like I was really struggling, but I did get 28 to hand in about 2 hours of fishing. She was "cold" the whole time on the water so I brought her home. I was thrilled witht he temps. I actually felt a little warmer than I wanted to be a time or two. Maybe I dressed better for a November trip on the White River than she did or maybe I just want it more.

I do on rare ocassion drop a fish, but I never kick them.
  21. I love catching all kinds of fish. For me, part of the attraction of trout is that they weren't available to me as a child so they still sort of have "new" status. They are usually a pretty fish and they have their charms, but yeah I'd rather have a smallmouth.
  22. I caertainly understand if the 7th is better for the group as a whole. Do what's best for the majority. I can't change my work, but I might be able to come by for a visit. I'm not sure what my shift will be that day. There will be an embarrassment of riches in regards to boats it sounds like. I'll keep my eye on the thread. I've got lots of firewood if you guys end up needing any.
  23. Sure thing GM. I'll shoot you a PM.
  24. I certainly understand that. My Mom grew up on a diary farm. They worked a whole lot of long hard days. They sold milk, but they grew most of there veggies and their meat. I've got a lot of patience when it comes to fishing. I'll be ready to go when you get a chance.
  25. You're so right CWF, those bass boat guys have cornered the market on being pretentious. Cold water fly fishing is the last PURE fishing left.
