  1. [quote name="fishinwrench" post="349632" timestamp Most guys (myself included) Personally I don't trust the sealed axle systems any more than I do the old school stuff. And acquiring the tools, parts and/or service for a new style axle system IF it DOES fail in Podunk, MO/AR". Yep, that's a concern. The vast majority of my trailering is local, but I'd love to be more comfortable dragging it hither and yon. Trying to stay positive.
  2. I have 4 lb P Line CX Premium on one wimpy rod to throw 1/32 oz jigs. It MIGHT catch less wind and it MIGHT throw better than 6 lb Nano, but I don't know that. Some of the time I get to thinking that mono or copoly might give the trout a little more time to flly get the jig in their mouth. With the no stretch lines, I get a hint the trout is there and jerk as hard as I can and take it away from them. My Bad.
  3. Woot Woot! The good folks at EZ Loader just called to tell me the custom axle is ready. Painted to match the trailer and everything. I'll pick it up tomorrow and install that sucker Friday. My sorry butt will be on the river ALL DAY Saturday looking to catch every trout I can. I'm so excited. JD, 870-481-5911 is the phone number at EZ Loader. IF EZ LOADER (TI INDUSTRIIES) built your trailer, they'll be able to tell you what you need. They are very helpful. Ask for parts and they should be able to help you. You obviously don't have to buy from them, but you'd know you were getting the right parts. Regardless you need to replace the rear seal and clean/repack your bearings. Replace the bearings if they are pitted or rusted. You would need to make sure you are getting a rear seal with a double lip. The existing bearings will have numbers that will allow a parts store sell you an equivalent. IF you need new bearings you most likely need new races as well.
  4. You're certainly welcome. I'm glad to hear they worked for you. Once I got on Zig Jigs, most of my trout baits get ignored these days.
  5. I hear ya Rick. I've lost multiple Bearing Buddys on multiple boats. One the Bearing Buddy goes. The bearing is toast. If a rear seal fails and you don't notice quickly, the bearing is toast. It isn't a cost saving move for me, but hopefully an end to the BS trailer issues for 5 years. I'll still have to deal with Bearing Buddies on the Bass Cat.
  6. Hey Guys, I've converted from indandescent tail lights to LED lights. I got a mish mash or leftover tail lights if anyone is interested in them. I've going to be changing from a traditional axle to the Vault system using a hybrid lubricant that is a sealed system that is supposed to be maintainence free and go to go for 5 years. I'll have a left over hub that's in good shape and an axle. So shoot me a PM if you have any interest in those items as well. My folks grew up during the depression and I hate to throw out stuff that has value, but I'd rather not be a hoader. Eventually, I'll need to clear this stuff out for our move to the bluff. It'll go to the dump in November. Tick, tick, tick.
  7. Alone or along? It ain't easy being green. I always have concerns about access.
  8. I remember and think about the BIG fish I've lost more than the ones I've caught. That fish will live in your mind forever. You did a great job fighting him; he just got lucky.
  9. Gene Larew has a trout worm also? Tim's Fly Shop near Roaring River has a great trout worm and I'm certain it comes Ina pink color. I think it's called "Lucky Lady". I like those a lot. My kids and I had a big time with those on RR one day.
  10. that would be cool JP.
  11. FWIW, 8 lb Nano smaller diameter than 4 lb mono.
  12. Yes Sir! I throw it on 6 or 8 lb nano with a 6 lb leader. I've been using a fairly light spinning rod. I might need to beef it up a bit. Points and bluff banks. BUT this was all spring long. I have not been on the lake in a few weeks.
  13. I get bit EVERYTIME I try it, but the problem has been that many of the bites are panfish and i've lost the only couple of GOOD bites I've gotten on it. A disappointment to this point TBH.
  14. Great Trip! I'm pretty sure that I've never caught a 7 pound trout, but I don'e weight them and rarely measure them. DId you get a length? Great fish regardless and sounds like a heck of a day. And all on 2 lb line. The bass fisherman in me doesn't allow me to use 2 lb line.
  15. I figured you would have a tough time due to the off colored water. I did not want to send you somewhere and have the water be even more brown than I figured it would be and I didn't want to be negative and suggest you postpone your trip until the water cleared. You WILL do better next time as far as numbers as long as you have clearer water.
  16. I hate to think about it, but at some point WHOEVER is deemed to be in charge will have to start limiting access to a certain number of bodies per day on these rivers. First 1000 people or whatever. I don't expect to have anything to myself, but at some point we can love the places to death.
  17. I think they must migrate up and down the river a little bit, but heck once they get locked nto a pool they have to wait for higher water to do anything.
  18. I was as nervous as a cat driving your boat BTW.
  19. Try it in a canoe near Van Buren during early summer. I'm going to limit my yak / canoe trips to the "off season" from now on. Not on a weekend and not when school is out. Jetboat maybe, but canoe no.
  20. I took my father in law out for a quick trip on the White River. I would have gone downriver, but the dingy water coming in from the Buffalo made me stay upriver. We launched at Rim Shoals. Not a single parking spot left. I has to make a place. River was way more crowded than the parking lot. Oh the humanity of it all. I know several folks that guide and I saw a few of them on the river today, but some of them seem to think they own the river. Kinda crazy being under cut by the same guide repeatedly during our 3 hour fishing trip. I kept a half dozen for trout cakes later. One of these days I'll have everything I need with me to clean trout before the trip starts. We were very comfotae on the water. The cool breeze coming off the river is like free AC. My father in law served as a US Marine. He isn't great at taking advice. As a result, he caught very few fish.i tied on an 1/ 8 oz Zig Jig and never looked back. I caught 36. Not too bad I caught bows ,browns, a cutty, and a real nice smallie.'
  21. I grew up on MG, but I'll do my best to never own another one. I love my MK Fortrex. I have the 24V 80lb. The button on the other side takes some getting used to though.
  22. Troutgnat caught a nice flathead on a Ned rig down lake a ways from DC and it was a beautiful mottled brown. It would be impossible to confused with a channel or blue cat.
  23. That's Great Man! I was thinking about you guys a couple of days ago. Wonderful looking baby boy you have there. Wish Mom well from all of us.
  24. Thanks Jeremy. Does Norfork still have Red Ear Sunfish? Suggestions of where to fish on BSL to try to get a Yelllow Perch?
