  1. Option B for posting fishing reports. Post as much information as you want. If carp fishing you must blur out the surroundings though.
  2. I use sunscreen on my ears and face anymore. Have had and will have more spots frozen off. Drs. Said I am at a higher riskmof skin cancer now due to my diagnosis and treatments. When younger I didn't even know what sunscreen was, I burned then it turned into a tan for the rest of the year. After everything I went through I would hate for a malignant skin tumor to be the end of me. I also we at a lot of the thin/lightweight long sleeve shirts, have pretty well gotten used to them, and sweating which seems to my new Super power after chemo.
  3. Wrench, I some time do that on a windy day at the house, pull out 50 yards or so and with back to the wind wind it back in. With braid the wind will pick it up and blow it around pretry well.
  4. Braid. Just kidding, not everyone likes braid but I do. After a very short time closing he bail by hand becomes second nature. For a couple years I claimed I didn't donit, but realized I was actually doing it and it didn't even register, sort of like feathering he line on a cast if needed or laying your finder on the spool for additional drag if needed.
  5. Ice one Pomme Arm from Lightfoot upstream and scattered between Lightfoot and Wheatland. Lindley Arm completely iced over from Haverstick Cove upstream and hit/miss from there to about Nemo Bridge. Cedar Crest/state park, The Harbor and Wheatland ramps are open, but water will freeze on the concrete almost immediately making it icy. Hopefully the slow warming trend will reverse the ice trend.

    What's Cooking?

Never really like any champagne I have tried, of course never tried any good/expensive one either. Our group has most switched to sparkling grape or raspberry, that way we can include all the young folks and it's tasty too. Nearly didn't happen last night though. Someone decided to set the bottles outside to cool down, at about 4 degrees. When we realized what had happened it was almost too late, we drank some slushy fizzy drinks a few minutes late.
  8. They are probaby endemic in about all ozark streams. I have gigged in he Pomme below the dam and above as well. Have caught or snagged a few in the creeks as well.

Anybody else have a batch of black eye peas, old tradition for us, supposed to be good luck. This rime they was extra delicious. Picked up a couple smoked pork hocks, and started simmering them this morning for a few hours before removing and cutting the hide and small amount of neat loose from the bones and returning to the ot with 2 cans of black eye peas. Came about like ham and beans.

Having a delicious little sammich. Hawaiian roll, a smear.of something my wife calls "crack dip" which is cream cheese with a lot of carmelized onions bacon and some other cheeses, a couple slices of the smoked tongue, a squirt of Horseradish sauce, some chopped smoked venison, and a slice of colby jack cheese. May never win any awards but it is tasty AND dirty T shirt approved.
  12. Since I use braid on everything, I usually buy a 150 yard spool and wind it on first, then splice on some cheap mono and fill the spool to my satisfaction (with braid you don't need it as full). Then I open the bail grab the loose end of the mono and head out into the pasture and loop back, tie the mono on the spool and wind it all back on. I do like most of my reels to be the same also and have most gone to Pfleuger 30's I believe. I even have a couple new in the box I bought when they were on sale for $30 each on black friday. But have other reels also, too many really, if that is possible.
  13. Snagged pick me up a tube while you are there please. A few years and a disease ago I didn't care about weather, feeding cattle, clearing fence rows, plowing snow, weather made no difference. Now I just don't take cold well, I sweat too easily so I can't wear many layers, thus once I stop moving it's OVER.
  14. I would expect the ice is somewhere around Bolivar landing. Lower lake had no ice one it, the ice report for the upper end was second hand.
  15. I have a St Croix 6'6" Medium/Light fast action I believe. The 2500 should be about perfect. I did add a balancing weight to mine I like them to balance at my index finger. I got mine to be a walleye/ned/white bass/back up crappie rod. And it does it well. I spooled with some Berkley Nanofil.

    What's Cooking?

Ran out of time to pickle the rogue before New Years Eve, so slow simmered it in a pot with Old Bay and some S&P for almost 2 hrs. Pulled it out and let it cool a little. Skin peeled off easily, then sliced the thin tip off and sliced very thin, was pretty bland so a little Salt/Pepper/Garlic Powder mixture shook on the slies and it was pretty darn good. Almost everyone tried it, including my grandson who happily chewed it up. My adult daughter absolutely refused to even taste it. It is now awaiting a few hours in the smoker tomorrow with the boned out venison quarter, and all will become part of the New Years eve festivities. Description of the taste is very mild roast beef, texture is a little odd, but it is tender. It is also very sticky.
  17. That short jaw look pure smallmouth to me. However admittedly I couldn't pick one out anyway.
  18. Someone began to make fun of the guys who were making the points. Socity began to tell the point makers that they just can't kill the guys who are harassing them, and rather than suffer the scorn of such a society they took up bead work and such, and began to import points and stonework from asia, thus beginning the downfall of their civilization. It was a blessing to them when Europeans came and killed thwm all.
  19. It's been quite a few years but we floated it in Jon Boats once, with under 10 HP outboards. The scariest part was the confluence of the White, you had better know what you are doing and where you are going. We had planned to motor upstream to a resort where we had stashed our vehicle, the flow was enugh that at wide open throttle a slow walking person would have passed us on the bank. Also I think it was the longest shuttle I have ever been on in my life. We ended up stacking both boats onto one trailer and heading back to the put it point. I think we spent 2 nights on the river.
  20. Dutch, I think I remember you telling me that story once, or at least someone told me a very similar one about building a small fire to thaw out their steering. I have never been, and never will be that tough or dedicated.!!
  21. Oneshot, I haven't grabbed a sucker in many years. Seems like it was more of a thing down around Branson when I lived/worked there. Bull creek and Roark creek were our best spots.back then. I think I still have a shuttle grab that a buddy made for me.
  22. Daryk, combine the fanny pack with a safari vest and all its pockets and I think you can have more stuff than most guys in boats. I used to walk around a lot of creeks like that. I still.occasionally find stuff in my old safari vest pockets.
  23. How do they fit as for the listed size. Do they run small or big or pretty much dead on.

Beautiful looking venison, and Bleu cheese in taters is delicious. Dang! And very glad the family made it and without serious injuries.
