    What's Cooking?

I was going to take a pic of supper but the smell was more than I could handle, had to dig in and eat it. Put a dozen fresh winter crappie fillets in a flat pan, painted on melted butter with garlic powder and a little lemon juice. Shook on some lawrys, a little old bay, a dash of dill and a little of some mix I had in a spice grinder for long enough I don't have a clue what is in it, but smelled good and onto the grill it went. Wife apologized because the skillet of taters and onions were over done, with lots of dark brown ones. No way, that is PERFECT. Poured the butter and juice into a cup and poured over the taters. I may have taken a year off of my life expentancy with all that butter and I am OK with that as good as it all was.
  2. You lost me at "coconut". I really like to grill them anymore. Sheet cake pan, line with foil, paint the fillets with melted butter (I add garlic powder and a dash of lemon to the butter). Then shake on seasoning of your choice, or do some with one flavor and some with another. I use some cajun, some greek, or mix and match different seasonings. Put the pan on your grill (oven would work just fine) until the fish turns white and flakes apart.
  3. I had ro watch the video several times. It appeared that the steering started to go before the crash. Driver appeared to be attempting to maneuver back into the center instead of over the previous boats wake. When he went over the wake it bow hooked and was gone faster than you could say it. I don't know that a short lanyard would have dono anything there as at least one of the occupants was still visabLE when the boat stopped, however I can see how if you just got bounced out of position the lanyard might not kill the engine and you would be trying to get back into the seat at 70 MPH. The auto-inflatable certainly deployed which is a good thing, scary stuff. Happily my boat wont.go.fast enough to be that scary.
  4. Haven't seen any predictions yet, but Pomme River was muddy this morning when I crossed it but wasn't all that big by any means. I would expect the lake to come up some, might even lead to a slight increase in outflow.
  5. I dessert warm and in rain gear, ditched the rain gear at the truck, and would have had to shed some layers if I had stayed longer. 60 degrees in January, crappie smacking your jig, Eagles flying around calling to each other, life is good.
  6. I am gonna declare it a good morning. In honor of Dr. Martic Luther King all black crappie were released. (They were too small) had a couple more that likely would have measured if I hadn't forgotten my "death checker", but a warm spring like day in January and a mess of crappie, no complaints.
  7. So who is enforcing that rule. Since Ameren doesn't patrol I don't see the point in making a rule that can't be enforced.
  8. Ditto here, once it turned to straight rain last night I quit worrying about it. Temp was right at 32 but nothing was freezing on vehicles. Just rains and galling ice now.

    What's Cooking?

Go for the quail and gravy, then eat oatmeal tomorrow.
  11. Drew, I am very sorry for your loss, there is nothing I can say to ease your pain. Just know that you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
  12. I usually run a trapline in my boat during the winter. Bait them with crappie nibbles. Irritates me when I find my roll of emergency toilet paper all chewed up when I need it the most. I also watched a mouse climb up an electrical cord into the boat once. Now the cord runs through a coffee can to prevent their inventive little butts from getting in easy.

    What's Cooking?

It's prime rib, how can it be bad. Is it an immersion cooker?
  14. If the station bait and tackle is still there below the dam, they used to keep up on hybrid fishing reports.

Heck as long as you didn't get any in the gravy or pork it will be OK. Palm of the hand is a painful.place to have stiches I would think, maybe super glue is better. During the early stages of the ice storm in 2007 my wife was bitten by a brown recluse spider and had a bad reaction to it, so I can sympathize with spending a little time in the ER, thinking about all the things you need to get done. BTW I also understand on the blood thinner thing, it amazing how much more you bleed.
  16. The only thing for sure is that you can never tell what a jury might do, they might laugh a civil suit out of the court but you will still be out attorney fees. Especially if it happens outside your home area you can't even guess what a police dept. Might do. If I were in a shooting here at my home, am pretty sure the Sheriff would not arrest me unless something was way off. If I were in springfield or heaven for bit St. Louis, I don't know. Fortunately there are very few reasons I would be willing to kill someone, and they all have names and are pretty dear to me.

Mmmmmm real bologna. Where do you buy real bologna at, I would love to find some.
  18. They do work very hard and fast for a couple days or so. Want a shed cleaned out, need some hay hauled, or some wood split they are pretty good at it, and as you said they will go all night. Want someone who will show up every day, not so much thy crash and sleep for a few days. They love too do things like hunt arrowheads at night because they aren't gonna sleep and have to do something. Sadly as they degenerate into the clutches of the drug they lose regular jobs and can't do things like pay rent, buy food and buy their drugs, so they have a tendency to steal stuff from places they know, people they worked for, friends and family because all that matters is another high. Meth is probably the most evil drug ever created, the chemistry is one terrifying.
  19. Wrench you have been around different meth heads than I have. A dismembered male body burned a fire, guess it could have just been an argument over whether or not a photo of the big fish was photo shopped or not. Probably not drugs at all, maybe just a political disagreement.
  20. It's not about fear of you being the one abducted etc. It's more about happily pulling to a public early/late and seeing a couple folks at a Bon fire not an unheard of occurrence, or them being at the take out point or at your chosen camping spot and suddenly there they are and you now have seen them. They have already demonstrated their concern for human life, likely someone they knew, why be a second victim. And castle doctrine doesn't even remotely apply unless you are attempting to enter someone's home or possibly their vehicle, tent or camper, if you are defending yourself you better be clear in what you can and cannot do.
  21. Even more likely a drug deal gone bad, but unlikely it will make the news so the find out.
  22. I very very seldom carry when I go fishing, nothing against it for sure, just I am always thinking things like I am gonna lose it in the river etc., or I don't want to get it wet, but soon enough I will purchase something I am not worried about getting wet, likely something like a small Glock 9mm or may a stainless Taurus in .38 spl. or heck who knows. I certainly have no problem with folks carrying when they go fishing, floating, camping, I do have a problem with those very few who decide that their pistol if for shooting at rocks, cans turtles as they float or camp though.
  23. "Dead Geese" my favorite part of the story.

    What's Cooking?

As long as she isn't hanging out with Oneshot!
  25. I have used flex seal on a few things and it worked on a gutter, and pair of boots, no idea how it would work on a crack like that. Certainly wouldn't be afraid to spray a coating over the whole thing when done though. And I was thinking of s liquid steel product I have used bedding rifles so I wasn't on the same wavelength at all.
