  1. What if my name is on my shirt pocket, can I expect any boost in fishing prowess.
  2. Great so it's a musky lure. Musky on Pome live to take lures away from me. Lures that aren't even sold as musky lures.
  3. Well now I own one. 3.5 inch rainbow trout. Choice was easy, it was the only peg that wasn't empty. Already a little disappointed. Walked past several of the aquariums and driver over a small creek and no bass or any other fish seemed to notice.
  4. Since I am in the city on Grampa duty today, me and the little man may just have to hit BPS and see what one looks like. Of course I still have a Weed Walker and a Tornado Spinner (Shoestring Dubois) bait somewhere also, so smarts ain't necessarily my forte.

    What's Cooking?

Joe I have tried drinking (sometimes heavily) but still only understand a small part of most of your posts. But my edjumikation may be lacking. Most of my pudgy hillbilly friends will eat just about anything especially if boiling oil or flames are involved, and a little Cajun seasoning.

    What's Cooking?

Went pretty basic tonight. Some venison loin on the grill, and taters in the cast iron skillet. Seasoning, garlic olive oil, and the Paula Deenes House seasoning mix of sal, pepper and garlic powder. Meat was dead rare in 5he middle, actually could have been just a touch more done. Taters some garlic olive oil same seasoning mix and at the end a little butter. Cant give it 5 stars since there was no gravy but right tasty anyhow.

    What's Cooking?

If I ever get back on the creek for a couple days I will post a pic of bacon wrapped around a stick and cooked over the fire. For some reason the cool weather has me craving some.stick bacon.
  8. I just pulled them up and they are there through tomorrow at least.
  9. The big one make the eaters look small. You should give the smaller ones to me, I have no pride and would eat them for you.

I would take up duck hunting if I thought it would get me some frogs. That one is a good one.
  11. Connor you are killing me, big smallies like that and you want to come to LoZ. Everybody has their preferences though. A few buddies and I are tentatively planning a trip to Melvern next fall to sample some of them smallies.
  12. Dutch, I didn't have a problem with the uspelling as i was willing. Although it was some 28 years ago, I did get to talking to the counter guy about JM walking through and making changes, still happens. It was the fact that the only way to buy an eyecon rod was on line, no way without being able to handle it. Boots, fishing rods, and firearms I won't buy if I can't lay hands on them. Unless I have had the exact same thing before and even then I am skeptical.
  13. I have seen Triumphs but only at Cabelas, some years back.
  14. Well finally made it to BPS with my grandson being all the help you would expect from an easily bored 18 month old. Ended up buying the one piece St. Croix Premier 6'6" med-light fast act. The 2 piece was a little heavier and balanced a little dirrerent. Now for the slight rant. When I asked about the St. Croix Eyecon I was told they only have it on line, in fact most of their rods are sold on line. Am I that strange that I am not going to buy a $100 rod that I can't handle first. Also was pushed toward a higher priced reel which I was not against until I looked closer and saw all the holes in the spool skirt that begged for dirt and grit to get into. Ended up with another Pfluger President and spool of 8# Nanofil to load it with. Now just need the chance to give it a try. Still have to put a balance weight on the butt but that won't take long.
  15. Talkin about smallmouth regulations on OA is sort of like preaching to the Sunday school class. I really like the idea of a 15 inch mll statewide on smallmouth and the 3 fish limit. No length limit on spotted bass in rivers and a creel limit of whatever. Not quite sure how to address largemouth in streams and rivers. While most of us could identify a spot over a largemouth easily that isn't the case for most people. And yes enforcement does partly drive the train as they have to not only enforce the regs but be able to explain to a judge exactly what they did wrong.
  16. Thought I would update in case some hadn't tried. Going to the second page seems to be working perfectly now on my phone. Thanks.
  17. Just think how much belly meat (catfish filet mignon) a 100 lb. Flathead would have. Also imagine being a noodler and having that thing clamp down on your hand as try to pull it out and then control it.

I like the char on the cabbage. Never tried it on a grill before.

    What's Cooking?

While plying my trade of Worlds Greatest Grampa (it says so on my t shirt) my daughter requested that I make a pot of Jambalaya. sausage, chicken, shrimp, Krab, oysters, etc.etc.etc. a little early in the year but when your grown daughter asks what are ya gonna do. I might be smart enough to post the recipe too .
  20. Buy a lightweight fly rod, and a handfull of popper bugs and a few scud looking flies. Forget you ever heard of trout and head to the nearest good sized farm pond. Catch bluegill and the occasional bass or channel cat that threatens to break off the 4lb leader until you are tired. Repeat. Bluegill taste way better than trout anyway.
  21. I have never really had any issues with the 2 piece rods I have, do they occasionally loosen and turn yeah but like you said AL a few seconds and it's right again. Have caught buffalo up to 15 pounds or so on my 2 piece outlaw with no issues, and no problems feeling a crappie tap on it either. Am still mostly a one piece but thought I was missing something, have grandson duty today so may not get hands on to compare just yet. I will try to find the Osprey Ferrule Lube/U 40.
  22. No trolling and I don't like ugly sticks. I say no trolling, but heck if thats what needs to be done with it I certainly won't not do it. I have trolled with my other St. Croixs at times. Its gonna be a St. Croix I am pretty sure, I already have 3 St. Croix I believe. I currently have 3 other models of 6'6" rods (all one piece) a 7'2" Outlaw (2 piece) and an 8' Crappie maxx (2 piece) don't remember the last time I had any of the 2 piece ones apart so I am leaning one piece but will look, feel, twitch, etc. when I get there and maybe decide on one, or maybe hang fire for a while yet, still won't get to use it for a while so its not a rush buy.
  23. I was afraid of that. Was hoping that the camp or whatever it is on the left bank (facing downstream) just above the lake would be public or maybe do shuttles. The horse/buggy/bicycles are indeed prolific there. A few years back as we were taking out at Celt there was a horse/buggy tied up in the shade by the spring branch and a group of amish/mennonites swimming with one grampa type in the center of a canoe while two young strong fellers paddled him around, and at the same time there was a bus full of kids put in there, interesting mixture of folks, all friendly as they come. Reckon the Prater family have any teenage daughters, my son is 17, might be worth it for a good access.
  24. I have a couple buddies who are wanting to do a 2 day float on the lower Niangua, probably from Lead Mine down to upper end of Lake Niangua. Is there anyone around there who does shuttles. And is there a good public take out just short of the lake. Aerial photos look like there is a business or maybe church camp with a nice access and stack of canoes in their storage area. Can't figure out who they are for sure to see if they do any shuttles or allow usage of the access. Any ideas or know of a shuttler.
