  1. Now that is a football shaped smallmouth. Wow.
  2. I have fished them before I knew they had a name in rivers for years. You lose a few but no worse that gitzit type baits. It does make a BIG difference if you aren't using a weedless style, or try to fish them around rip rap.
  3. That is the part that gets me at times, you can show them what and how you are doing it, give them a lure and some will still claim "Ah Hell, I aint fishing that thing/color/style/location". Fortunately most kids don't have a problem with following your instructions after watching you catch a bunch of fish, and would cast a wooden clothes pin if that was what you gave them.
  4. I know of a spot that always has a good smallmouth on it. And I have seen two different folks string an 18" smallie from that spot. If it is a prime spot for a good smallmouth to live, if the resident gets harvested or dies there will be another move into it, because its a good spot. You gotta love a small secret spot that you can catch a good smallie from, and know he is still around everytime you float by, and catching him more than once especially if he is identifiable, just adds to the experience.
  5. I would guess that generation is causing the look. Generate and the water level drops near the gauge then recovers as the lake level stabilizes again. Also the grid lines are 0.1 feet increments which exaggerates everything.
  6. I wish I had a stringer of them right now. Cleaning them don't bother me none, I can peel their delicious flesh off in pretty short order, and have eaten more than a few in years past that were scaled, heads cut off and pan fried whole. Crispy tails are like dessert.
  7. Nope the ones right below the COE office.
  8. That one vertical piece is almost blue still. The rest look just right. I was sick then just too lazy to cook much. Did do basic BLTs, may do a caprese salad, maybe another southwest salad, good basic hot weather food.
  9. I am going to qualify mine to individualovies only. Which keeps me from saying Band of Brothers and Lonesome Dove. Big Jake Saving Private Ryan We were Soldiers Last of the Dogmen Parts Pulp Fiction
  10. I was hearing "fat bottom girls make the world go round" when I read that typo.
  11. If the fish all go washed downstream you wouldn't be able to catch them immediately after the water returns to normal. I suspect big fish are often homebodies, they have a good spot with plenty of food and cover or they wouldn't be big.
  12. Other than not hooking up the kid/dad with a Ned rig? With great power comes great responsibility. There have been times when I was a kid and someone was doing that I would ask what they were using many times they handed me one of whatever it was. Result = happy kid.
  13. I can't reccomend for or against anyone but I can provide you with a lit of folks who do work on docks at Pomme if you don't already have it. If you need want the list just say so and I will give you an email address to contact me.
  14. Don't get me wrong I prefer fishing with a buddy or two however there are times when the single wading trip just speaks to your soul. I am pretty sure it isn't about fishing on those trips, just time off. Little thing like laughing out load at a squirrel that fell off a limb into the creek, or getting chased by a momma hereford because you passed too close to her calf. The landowner who spots you and comes down to give you a ride back to your truck, along with a sack of cucumbers to take to your mom and dad. Nah I am pretty sure most of those weren't about the fishing.
  15. When it happens, some give some basic instructions on posting pics. Should I ever get to catch a fish maybe I will post a pic of it.
  16. Good Man.
  17. There was the remains of 12 channel cat someone had cleaned and tossed by the fishing docks thursday. Biggest might have been 3 pounds, smallest half that. Delicious eating size, would have been happy for someone if they hadn't left the carcasses right there on the bank.
  18. The TR guys will give you some good info. All I will say is you mentioned two things that can be dangerous when combined, bachelor party and bass boat. Make sure you guys are safe from yourselves and others, PFDs etc.
  19. A little web surfing, watching some videos, and reading comments I think I have maybe got a few solids. 1) the concept is very similar to a version of live bait fishing for crappie, although it has a "non PC" name, also similar to several carp and catfish rigs I have used. 2) there is a multitude of ways to actually do it, limited by your imigination and willingness to try. 3) Live bait or artificial either can/will work. I am envisioning a deep hole in a creek/river and me dropping a modified drop shot into it to see what chomps down on it. Great just great, as if I don't have enough plastic trays full of stuff already, maybe I can combine a Ned and DS box together, that way I will only have 30 trays instead of 31.
  20. The marina received significant damage to Dock #5 and heavy damage to the roof and support structures. No other docks nor out buildings received any damage. The good news if there can be is that the dock did not flip and the boats remained upright. There will be a lot of work in carefully removing the storm damaged roof from the top of the boats. No reports of anyone missing or injuries to the public.
  21. Thats what I get for not reading closely enough. This time I will just cut/paste it to keep my dumb fingers from typing wrong info again. Sorry I should have done that to begin with. 22. I love fishing slow, quiet and alone. Amazing how in years past I would work it like a job, anymore I am likely to sit down on a nice log, or rock and light a cigar and simply enjoy life.
  23. Absolutely fabulous news.
